Rear Light Removal

I need to replace a bulb (break light) and i can find no method of entry. I have done some reading and have come to the conclusion the lenses must un-clip from the outside in some way. I have seen it suggested using a bit of paper and a flat head screw driver to price it open.

I have a early Toyota MR2 (MK2) with the squarish rear lights (not the round ones)

I just want to make sure this is correct before i end up smashing a lense....

Any help would be great

Sam

Open your boot and there should be some screws pointing upwards from where the lights are roughly. Undo these.

Pop off the triangle reflector parts that go around the side of the car at the back (with a screw driver). Then undo the bolts etc (possibly from the inside also? Can't remember 100%).

Then if my memory serves me, they should come off the car (the complete light assembly).

Sorry for the poor info, but it's been a while since I had a Mr2. If it was here, I could do it easily. I just can't remember without seeing one.

I have been lucky, non of my bulbs have gone yet, its such a pain to get to.

well i have just taken the front indicators off and they were a bit of a challenge. There are no screws involved you have to prize the hole indicators assembly out from the front.

I have the old yellow version. I plan to change them so im going to do a before, a after and hopefully if it ever stops raining. a during to show you how they come out?

it was actually rather simple comparatively to other cars i have, You just have to get past your fear of snapping somthing

No, easy is opening your boot, reaching in and changing your bulb!

Not removing the whole cluster from the outside!

LOL you clearly have never worked on a early Mk2 MR2 then. there is no access to the bulbs from the boot. When i get time ill upload the photos to show you how it came apart

I was taking the pee out of how hard it is to get to the bulbs!!

Here is my 'rear' end when I was fitting my Lexus lights and Rev3 centre panel.

I also replaced the rear bumper at the same time, that was a pain to get off too.
