Looking For Old Style Rav 4

Hi there,

I'm now financially able to buy my dream car but it's been a month since I started looking in autotrader, loot and even eBay ..but no joy! Any other recommendations for someone based in South London?? Ideally I'm looking for a 1999-2000 3 door blue RAV 4....any help much appreciated!

I've finally found one on gumtree.co.uk W reg, 62K miles & £3K. I'm going to see it tomorrow after work but the seller's told me it needs a new cam belt (probably costing about £700). Just wondering what other potential problems to check out with a car of this age? Many thanks!

Dont know if you would be interested, but my mother in law is selling her Rav4. Its on a M reg which might be a bit old for you ? i put it on eBay the other day for her. Take a look. She only wants £1800 ono for it !

Had mine done last year but payed no where near £700 quid.... more like between £120 and £140 that's including the labour

wow! that's great news - I phoned up my local Toyota dealer in Croydon and they quoted me £600- £700. I gather you're using a local non Toyota garage? Any recommendations for South London? Many thanks for that wake up call ! :)

My mate is a fully trained toyota mechanic, and has always done a great job on my cars and my friends and family.

His is located in sidcup. His garage number is 0208 302 0600. Garage is called Tech 1

Cambelt change should only be a couple of hundred.

Err not even my local Toyota dealer gave me that price...... And yes I do use an independent garage who also happened to use Toyota approved parts... but thankfully not dealer approve labor rates....

No idea regarding where to go, I would phone up a couple from local rag or Thomson directory....

I phoned 2 indepedent garages in my area and they both quoted around £250 all inclusive for a cam belt change so whilst it's not as cheap as £140 it's not too bad and maybe normal for London... That quote I got from their Croydon branch has really put me off going there but I might phone another Toyota garage in South London to compare prices cos it's weird it was SO high.

Anyway, in a couple of hours I'll be the very proud owner of a W reg 3 door RAV 4! can't wait! and so glad it's just before the weekend - I'll be living in it for the next couple of days
