Hi all

I have been driving a Kia Sportage 2.7v6 auto for the last 2 years. Next week I am trading it in (as well as my wifes Yaris T-sport) and getting a RAV4 XT5 auto. Reading these forums I think I have made a good decision as you all seem very happy with your cars.

Has anybody out there any details about the sat nav fitted to this model, I am interested in reading up about it before I pick up the car on the 16th.

For information, I require the auto, cruise control and even the heated seats because of back problems. Has anybody else out there got these for the same reason?

Hi,

Welcome to the forum and to Rav4 ownership!!

I would definately support your decision to buy a Rav, and I think you'll be impressed - even more so than perhaps you were with your Kia.

As you would expect, the user manual for the satnav is like a copy of War and Peace, so in brief:

The satnav fitted to the XT5 is really simple to use. It's obviously touch screen and I would say the menus are pretty much intuative. The only bugbear I find is the postcode input doesn't allow or give sufficient characters to pin down the address you're looking for, but if you know the street or even the house number it's fine. The TMS system is excellent and the bluetooth function is very handy too

The other, slightly annoying trait (although it's only doing what it's been asked to do) is when the system offers you three routes to a destination. Generally, two are by quickest routes and one is the shortest. The shortest can sometimes only save you a few miles in distance, but put you on some of the most wierd and wonderful routes (through the narrowest of country lanes/farm tracks etc) which can add a heck of a lot of time onto your trip :ffs:

If there's anything that you are specifically interested to know about the satnav, please ask though.

Cheers.

Paul.

Cheers Paul.

Thanks for the offer, I will probably get back to you after I pick up the car on the 16th. Does it have speed camera warnings?

If you go to the Toyota website and click on Avensis there is some information on the full map navigation system on the Avensis it may be the same as on the Rav

Hope it helps

Thanks bjw, I found that quite good.

As for the speed cameras, I guess I will keep the Navman in the glovebox!
