Dog And T180 Alarm System

When I bought my 2002 VX I found that when leaving the dog in the car I had to press the lock button three times to disable the alarm, otherwise it would set itself off with her movement.

On Saturday we are due to pick up our T180 and I am wondering if anybody has advice on the alarm set up. After doing a lot of reading I think I understand the keyless system but do have concerns about how to make sure the alarm isn't activated by the dog.

Also I have seen the question raised a few times with regards to the doors auto locking. Can this be done with the T180? When I got the VX I found details of this in the alarm booklet and asked my dealership to enable it. They eventually managed although it was not something they were aware of.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Richard

Richard,

Try this link;

http://techdoc.toyota-europe.com/find_SM.a...d=1〈=En

Click search publications

Drop the publication box and click accessory instalation manuals

Click the red box "search aim"

Drop the RAv4 box and then below that select Vehicle Security System

Then look for VSS1 Setting Guide English

This will give you a guide to 'fiddling' with the security settings for what you want!!

Thanks to ManxRav for this by the way!!

Cheers.

Paul

Thank you very much for your reply and I have indeed found the information I was after. And a few more hours reading also.

I enjoyed your article on your weekend away in the West Country. And as this is the same car I have ordered I can't wait to take delivery now.

Thanks to ManxRav also.

With ref to the doors auto locking with ignition on, (It's a marmite function - you either love it or hate it) I too used to have this enabled on my 4.2 VX.

When I got the XT5, the dealer said it couldn't be done and looking at the manual on the techdoc site, it does indeed seem it's not a programmable function.

However, the "VSS1 Setting Guide" seems to suggest you can program it. Has anybody with the smart entry system got this programmed?

I followed the instructions in the VSS1 Guide, but I can't even get it into the first programming state - when the led comes permanently on. Anybody been successful with this?

Thanks

God no, it looked way too complicated from the off!!! :crybaby:

But having said that, if anyone has simplified the instructions I'd be interested too

Thanks for the reply shcm,

I agree about the auto locking being a "marmite function", even after two years my mother in law used to try to snap the door handles off whilst getting out. My main concern is that my wife works shifts and is often alone driving in the evenings so if it were an option I would probably activate it again.

With regards to my other concern about disarming the internal sensors I have found that it is easier that first thought. The button next to the sunroof switch cancels the sensors for one door lock at a time. When you press it the red LED flashes quickly indicating that the sensors are off, then after 30 seconds flashes normally so as not to make the fact obvious.

I now have the RAV and I am astounded by the difference in acceleration and driving to my previous one. It has done 700 miles in little over a week and I think my average economy would be around 37 or 38mpg.

Thanks to everyone on here for the great advice and variety of topics. It has been invaluable with such a complicated car.
