My CTS is going in for its 2 year service tomorrow. Its also having the following looked at:

1: Brakes are very loud and feel rough.

2: Clutch feels like its grinding and smells of fish, under heavy engine braking or upchange at high revs.

3: Back Seat rattles like a !Removed!, had to wedge an old jumper in there!

4: Passenger window rattles when open more than an inch.

This will be my first dealings with a Toyota dealer. I hope they are a vast improvent on Peugeot and Ford dealers. Will be interesting to see their findings on the warranty issues.

Right got her back and has had it service. Thought the brake fluid was part of the 2 year service, but apparantly thats extra. (£50).

Here are the results of the above problems. My car is a 2005 facelift model with 17k miles.

1:Have been cleaned all round and I need new front pads. (£120!!!I think I'll go elsewhere)

2: Clutch is buggered!!!! Just 17k old and it needs replacing!!! :( Luckily its getting done next week under warranty. :)

3: Have tightened it as much as possible.

4: New window seal required. Also being done under warranty.

The service was good although they did seem rather dissapointed when I said I'd go elsewhere for the brakes. I would definatley recommened getting your clutch checked if you have the same issues as I had. Just relieved they were honest enough to admit it was naff instead of bullsh*ting me. :)

You can pick up some uprated pads for about a third of that price and fit them yourself

These clutch issues are interesting.

Is the noise on engine braking part of your symptoms?

And smelly when giving it a few too many revolutions when you pull away?

Or do you get smells under more "normal" symptons? Does it fell wrong or just sound/smell wrong?

Yes and yes. It feels wrong and smells wrong. Get it looked at!

Yeah I'm not sure what to do about mine. There's no slip in it or anything.

It feels fine and only smells if you give it a lot of revs setting off. I've not had it happen since getting used to the car.

It does make a noise on engine braking sometimes (assume it's the clutch but might not actually be) but it's not particularly loud and searching the forum it seems to be a "characteristic" of the car!

It'll be interesting to see how different you find yours after getting it changed!

There's no slip in mine either. But the technician said as soon as he drove it on the ramp he felt the "grinding". Will be interesting to see what anew one is like as you say!

Definately no grinding feel on mine. Might be due for a change though, car has done nearly 23k!
