Mine is a 99 car with the 1.8 engine 7AFE,

Can I use fully synthetic 15W/50 oil? (I'm only asking as i have 8 litres of silkolene in the garage).

The manual says the grade is ok, but what do these engines prefer?

The alternative is Shell Helix semi synthetic 10/40, so I'm just wondering if the above would be better.

I think 10W40 is the normal used in them for all year round protection, but you should be OK with the 15w50 during summer (I think)
