2000 Celica Servicing

Hi all, I've owned my 1.8 140bhp Celica for a while now and I think its time to get it serviced! I always use a local garage who will just about service anything!

The car has done over 100k, I bought it on 80 and had the oil changed so I'm sure it needs a full service now. I'm told that the main cam belt is chain driven so theres nothing to replace, is this true? after 100k miles I would think it needs maintaining in some way?

I dont have a service book for it so am unsure of what I should be servicing. It doesnt seem as responsive as it once was and makes lots of squeaky noises on startup.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

has anyone else got a "high miler" and what have they changed, whats gone wrong?

mines been good so far, only had a problem with the washer motor because of a corroded wire.

thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the club

I have a service schedule for 150,000km's which should give you an idea of what checks & oil changes are needed and details of the cam chain, I would say as long as there is no undue rattling from the chain I wouldn't bother carrying out any major strip down, even then at worst it could only be a weak chain tensioner. ;)

I wouldn't leave oil in a car for 20,000 miles even if it was top quality fully synthetic. If the brakes are not worn a full service of oil, oil filter and parhaps spark plugs and air filter along with maybe a fuel filter would be no harm. Going forward I think more frequent oil changes may be a good idea.

Welcome by the way, I am a newbie too

Hi, i've decided to change the coolant & oil, and oil filter in mine - only done 39k miles though.

Anyone got any ideas on best place to get the oil from, says in the service manual that 5W-30 is the best choice - but there are still a few choices on that, take it fully synthetic is going to be better than part synthetic?

Dave.

thanks for the advice and info guys, I dont usually leave oil in for so long. I've got it booked in this week for oil, filters, plugs and to have the chain checked so I'm sure he will tell me if the chain tensioners and other bits in there have any issues.
