Loose Gearchange

Hello there

I am a 17 yr old owner of a 1996 1.3 GS Corolla. I had a nova but killed it and a 106 but it died. The Corolla is a far superior car and i am loving it, as Macdonalds might say!

One problem I have is that the gear lever is really loose. The gearbox works fine and the clutch seems fine too its just that there is way too much movement of the lever.

Can anyone help identify what the problem is and how to fix it.

My dad has a mk2 golf and the gear linkages on that are worn, is this something similar?

Kind regards

Alan

Hello again

I have read on the forum that my corolla will have a cable gearchange. Are there any known issues which cause the gear lever to go really loose?

Thanks

Alan
