Newbie Asking A Few Question?

Hi there. I am new to this forum and owners club and basically its not my car but my wifes little red rollerskate i am asking about.

Its a 1996 toyota corolla 1.6 CD 5 door hatch in Red. a very nice example and will get pics up as soon as i can. suppose its a 6AFE engine varient ( 1.6 litre ) but someone can tell me more on that part as i dont know the engine numbers etc of these cars. i do know its a type 3 body anyway Mk3 i suppose. right well got some questions here to ask if someone knows or can help.

I have replaced the Rear ARB bushes as they were banging. thinking of fitting a front strut brace and possibly Polybush the Front ARB at the same time. its on 15" alloys and does handle very well indeed. very pokey. i am also looking into a Bomz induction kit off eBay and wondered if that was better than the standard air box? will these Modifications make the car handle better will the brace and bushes make it more stable?

also last of all. I am thinking of upgrading the 1.6TB to one off a 1.8 engine. will this be a straight swap and will it make any difference to the power on the car? better throttle response and slightly quicker or pokeyer. I have done this conversion on a 1.8 ford mondeo to a 2lt TB and it made a difference there. but just wondered if the TB is larger diameter or lets more air through?

if anyone knows anything and could help us before i decide to do this then can they post up thanks.

Dan

As far as i know (from Carina E), swapping from 4A-FE to 7A-FE isn't a power-upgrade you want a faster engine.

My parents have a Carina E with the 7A-FE 1,8litre engine. Puts out around 107HP where my 4A-FE 1,6litre puts out 114HP.

However, pulling a trailer or something after mine is idiotic compared to my parents car. It just keeps on pulling ;)

The torque is fantastic in the 7A-FE!

ok so no real difference to sticking a 1.8TB on the 1.6 engine then? oh well i didnt want more power. just a quicker pickup. thinking that i would have thought the induction kit will make a bit of a difference anyway. just wondered if the 1.8TB and 1.6TB are the same diameter then? as in the butterfly etc.
