If you want to take the light cover off then I believe it will involve dismantling all of the bodywork on the front of the car as the panels cover the screws that hold the light covers in place.

I know a few people who have managed to change them without doing this but I think they must have been lying and got their 3 year old sisters/daughters to change it as I can't see how you get your hand in there. Luckily I've had the slightly easier task of replacing the passenger side bulb twice now so I'm pretty quick with that one, but never had to do the driver's side :)

passenger side can done easily by removing the Battery. The drivers is a lot harder, you need to drop that corner of the bumper and move the headlamp forward to get access.

I can change the drivers side sidelamp bulb easily if i use long nose pliers lol

i changed both without taking the bumper off. just unclipped the retaining clip at the back of the unit with the bulb still attached to all the wires. then used a screwdriver to pry them apart. that the bit where you dont have enough hand space to pull the unit off.

i dont have small hands and ended up with several scratches on my hands. easier than taking the bumper off though.

it was snowing when i did it to

Can the ABS pump not be moved out of the way to gain access to the headlight bulb? Would this not be a case of loosening the bolts attached to the ABS pump mount which are visible at the bottom?
