Yep, when it was three months old!

With wheel spin and driveshaft !Removed! I got a 15.2secs at 92 mph ;)

With a bit of playing I suppose it could be better but I was just having fun

15.2  that sucks !

CTR is around 14 and I was hoping that Compressor was around 14 !

Absolutely right!

It should be quicker but I'm used to dragging a RWD and was just having a laugh in my daily car :P

I would expect at least a second quicker

just to let u all know i have an EP3 2002 civic type r and standard ones 1/4 at high 14's at best iirc.

so 15.2 with wheel spin and only 3 months old so more loosening up to be had is quite good! i would estimate that a corolla compressor would at leist match if not beat a type r on a 1/4 if driven well, i would estimate mid to high 14's is poss for standard?

ps. i read that the book 215 bhp is understated and rolling roads seem to show 220-230 bhp, is this true???

even tho i own a type r im tryin to be realistic! plus i like the corolla t sports and compressors and dont think they get the respect that they deserve!

I would have thought a standard CTS would hit 15's (probably high 15's), all depends on how you shift, its a right git to get lift in second gear from first! Is possible  Its the clutch that don't like it

Anyone got times?

yea i agree- think T sport would do mid/high 15's too???

be handy to know any other times, both t sport and compressor? im sure as above compressor wud be a little better than a civic type r, so prob mid 14's??? i know the compressor is heavier but the extra bhp and torque shud make up for that!

come to think of it if i could afford one id much prefer a compressor over my type r - more exclusive, and a touch more power and torque! i dont know why it isnt more known about and more popular than it is! i wud much prefer a compressor over any of the hot hatch brigade at the mo- focus st, golf gti, astra vxr, mini cooper s etc etc. just my opinion tho!

I think your opinion is pretty much shared in this forum! The thing with the corolla t sport was the fact it was never really advertised as being a sports hot hatch. No body knows what its packing and what it can do, in essence its under-rated and the name corolla = old person at wheel!

Good for us though as cheaper insurance and not everybody wants to race you at the lights! Which i find a bit guttin when i want to play!

Oh well!!!

So have you ever had a blast against a t sport?

I have and theres not much in it to be honest. In gear pull is not that different but the advantage comes with the low down pull from the supercharger - it will get you in front from a standing start. However in the grand scheme of things its unlikely to happen that often especially if you care about your clutch and gearbox.

in my type r i have had one go with a CTS-

i pulled onto a duel carriageway with CTS behind me, i moved out to the outside lane and went, going past traffic on inside lane, than he pulled out and followed, but he pulled out 1/2 sec to 1 full sec after me, so i had a sort of head start and was already accelerating as he pulled out, even with 2 identical cars this wud show a gap, so further up the road after i had pulled a sizeable gap i thort that was an unfair comparison so slowed down and let him catch up (i wanted to see the diff between cars realisticly and fairly for myself).

We came up to next roundabout, both smoothly over then both floored it on the exit! the sound must have been awesome! as we went up the road i was easing away, not flying away, just gradually pulling away and creating a gap which became wider and more obvious at big speeds. As we came to the next roundabout at silly pace i braked very early (first time i had really given the car some full on beans and pulled up these silly numbers on this road), CTS guy in response broke very late and carried more speed straight over the next roundabout and was edging in line with me as i was on the power after roundabout thru 2nd, and thru 3rd we were neck and neck agen and into 4th to 5th i eased away agen (less this time as he had taken the roundabout better). A few car lenghths gap at high speeds apeared agen before we both slowed down for a combination of lights, roundabout then lights agen, where we both drove normally and stopped at some reds agen! we wound down windows and awknowledged each other and i commented that there wasnt much in it!

in standard form i personally think handling wise the type r is better, but these big speeds were new to me and i certainly wasnt going to risk it, so was happy to lose more speed, but driven well the CTS can hold its own!

pace wise there also wasnt much in it, yes i eased away and produced a gap in a straight line which became more obvious at 3 figures and beyond, but it certainly wasnt a big diff! i have read some people say they can eat CTS's and leave for dead, that is defo not poss, leaving a car for dead takes a big performance gap, and there simply isnt a big diff!

also the above shows that driven well the CTS is a force to be rekoned with, and tidy up the standard handling (i have been in a friends phase 1 bout year ago) and it wud be v nice! considering the CTS has the same character of engine as a type r, and isnt much off the pace its a good car to get if u like a type r- similar in my mind, but much cheaper to buy and insure, rarer and a sleeper! just suspension mods and it wud be more of a contest both driven the same!

i hear the facelifted corolla has this improved handling with less roll tho???

gr8 story,

yes the facelift version has revisised suspension but still no where near the civic.

with a k&n Typhoon and coilovers i think the race would be worth doing again...

It's nice to hear a comparison from the other side of the fence and definitely ties up with what CTS owners know. It's close to a CTR but is just slightly off the pace and when you need handling as well, there's no contest as the CTS loses too much ground due to its suspension setup. I do however think that with less than £1k spent on a CTS, it would literally be neck and neck with an off-the-shelf CTR. And as has been pointed out, it's cheaper to insure, comfortabler and as it's a sleeper you are less likely to have it smashed to bits or stolen by as****es with nothing better to do.

also comparing the type r to the CTS, i actually think the CTS sounds nicer.

when i was in my mates last year, it sounded amazing especially when he put a blitz filter on it.

the change over to high lift feels more pronounced and sudden too, much more old school honda vtec like the original B series vtecs, whereas with the k series in the ep3 type r the vtec change was smoothed out, still noticeable, but smoother- not as sudden or kicky unfortunately!

the sudden switch may not be so good for driveability but it feels and sounds so good. and unfortunately the new fn2 type r has ben smoothed out even more!!! not good for people who want their raw cars!

also just a thort- this is all off the top of my head

if the type r is aprox high 16's secs to 100mph

the corolla t sport is aprox 18-18.5??? secs to 100 mph

a compressor is at a guess 16.5??? to 100mph

then basically if u had a late shape (bug eye on) impreza WRX, ud be really annoyed that 0-100 and rollin speeds (not off the line) that these can match and beat ur 2 litre turbo!!! i read the basic WRX is 17.5 - 18 secs to 100, ud be annoyed and impressed that especially the 1.8 t sport is matchin u, and the other two ahead!!! i know its only the base one and not an sti as these are different animals but still!!! more respect deserved i feel.

yep bog standard scooby doos yeah!

I'm not gonna say your wrong and i'm rite, but figures for the corolla especially those given from toyota are.... well full of s.i.h.t (i can spell, its deliberate, lol). I'm not sure what others think but i would have thought the CTR and standard CTS would be a closer match 0 to 100! Its after the 100mph barrier the CTS starts geting it wrong, the softer suspension setup and wollow-ey feel, the stilts suspension setup etc etc!

I'm not saying we'd spank a CTR no way, for a start torque and the lower kick 2nd cam of the CTR wins everytime. But the 0-100mph of the corrolla is certainly faster than an 18 sec. Well it feels it to me!!!!

But thats my opinion, i actually wanna take my cts on the track soon and see what she will do. Anyone know of any santa pod meets soon?

i was only estimating, i dont actually know!

i was sort of following that i read somewhere a celica 190 does high 17's to 18secs to 100, and the corolla must be v close to that i wud imagine? the weight isnt much diff is it?

ur rite i think, there isnt much diff between the type r and a CTS, more noticeable above 100 as u say, but then very high 16's for a type r, and 18 to 18.5??? CTS is only really aprox 1/1.5 secs diff to 100, which isnt alot IMO.

come to think of it - lets torque bhp - quite good for theory comparisons- is only theory but seems fair acroos the board. defo not gospel but i like it anyway! check CTS - very good! is weight right?

ps. sorry for off topic stuff! any 1/4's times from peeps?

EVO mag tested the celica t sport and it did

0-60 7/2

0-100 18.7

so about the same for the corolla i guess

Well I do stand corrected!

Oh well i honestly thought th 0-100 time would be close to that of a ctr! but having said that the ctr is a second quicker 0-60 (thats if you ignore the toyota stated time of 8.3 for the cts)
