Auris Electrical Problems

I have some electrical problems with my auris...

It is a NDE150, 1,4D4d

When I push down the cigarette lighter, the illumination in the combination meter gets darker.

The cigarette lighter does not work...

I have voltage in the lighter, but it does not get warm, and I have tried another lighter.

I guess it is not enough amps to heat it up.

The light in the meter dims?(is that a word) down to the presetted value, that I have set myself.

You can decide yourself how much darker the illumination would be when you turn on the light. When I push down the lighter the illumination dims down to this value.

I have also noticed that some times when I turn off the ignition key, the stereo still works for about 2-3 seconds before it turns off.

So....

Anyone have a clue???

I work in a toyota shop here in norway, so the searching for faults will be my job.

Just thougt I should ask if anyone had an idea of what the problem could be...

Fred

Sounds like the cigarette lighter element is faulty or there is a bad earth on that circuit - either way its under Warranty even if you have repair it yourself at the Franchise.

A quick phone call to Toyota technical, quoting your franchise number should get the answers you need.

Lol 'technical' will most probably not have a clue and ask you to let them know what the problem is when you find it! :$

The number of times i have called them only to get this response is crazy. All they do is run you through the procedures already listed on TOTSS. lol

Hope you find the problem though :)

LOL - No change with Technical then !!!!

If you have a EWD - find out what circuits are common to both - like the lighting circuit and check the block connectors and earthing points - more often a poor earth on one circuit and it tries to earth itself through the other circuit.

I have Techdoc2, so sorting out he wiring is not so much problem, but on the diagram I see a lot of wires going in to a junction block, and it is a lot of things connected to that junction block, and the fuse for this, but all of the other stuff is working as it should...

Fred - Faults like this are never easy to find/diagnose,so you have a few options:

Run a temporary fused feed to the cigarette lighter and check the operation.

Run a seperate earth to the cigarette lighter and check the operation.

Starting at the original fuse - check each side of every connector in the circuit from the fuse to the lighter for any high resistance readings and any signs of water ingress to the connectors.

I have spent many hours with a multi-meter and test lamp, curing a whole host of faults on various Toyota's in the past so hope you can cure your problem quickly.

Hi,

I would like to check some wires on my Auris. Can you tell me where I can find an EWD or the Techdoc you have?

Thanks a lot

I have had this problem in my previous car and that was a landcruiser, it was a faulty cigarette lighter that was the problem, changed the lighter to a new and it worked flawless.

There was a shortcircuit in the faulty lighter.
