Hello all,

I have just purchased 3 year old T4, first registered Feb 2004. Dealer assured me that the SatNav was checked and works, however, I didn't get a DVD for it. :(

Does anyone know:

1. The exact part number I need

2. Is there a different part number (DVD) for ETA and non-ETA or I can get any TNS300 DVD

3. Am I allowed to obtain a copy from Toyota since the car already had the original software license

I contacted my local Toyota dealer and the price was £150+vat which I think is too much for what is worth.

Please help!

Regards

Goran

Go back to the dealer and tell him the satnav don't work. Let them sort it out.

Either they'll give you a new one or they'll swipe one from another car. either way you got nothing to lose.

Unfortunately, the dealer has not been very helpful.

I am ashamed to say that I've given up on chasing them (the receipt did contain exclusion saying that they are not responsible for DVDs/CDs - well known dealer with a massive 23 acre site).

So I am left with getting the DVD myself, I guess the positive side is that maps will be up to date.

Just need to get the right part number.

Order at www.toyota-mapupdates.eu

Part Number:PZ485-T01EU-06

Disc-identifier:86271-24122

Thats what fitted my 04 t-spirit with the colour satnav system.

However I would tell your dealer in writing (email the sales manager) that you reserve your rights under the 14day exchange warranty and that you will be speaking too toyota customer care. By reserving your rights you will be making them think you may give the car back. I think a disclaimer about the DVD is worthless since its an intricate part of the system. Surely they tested it and if the DVD was missing they told you! If not you paid extra to get a model with upgraded satnav only to find it didn't work.

Ring Toyota and give them the details including salesmans name and what was said.

I've only just got my t-spirit and I can't believe how much they've done to keep me happy. The car came with new tires, discs and pads all round. that must of cost over a grand. plus front bumper and side skirt resprays. This was done even after they'd underpriced the car by £1500 in my favour!

Thinking about this more, if the car was advertised with satnav then they have to provide a DVD else they are breaking the trades description act by advertising something that does not work (or by not stating the DVD must be purchased separately)

The invoice stating they are not responsible for DVD's is to do with the content of the disc not whether they are present or not. If they have admitted the DVD was missing then its quite an easy argument.

But there again I like to argue....

And believe me trading standards love to ring garages to remind them of customer rights and the law.

Thanks for the part number and your advice. I suppose I should have been more asertive when collecting the car (I didn't think that new set of maps would cost upwards of £100).

I will pay them a visit over the weekend and see what they have to say.

I have an 05 T Spirit D4D - where is this DVD likely to be located? My sat nav works, but i'd like to check the version on the DVD to see if it's worth updating

DVD drive should be under the passenger seat. wide the seat forward and then access from behind.

pull the cover off and push the button far left - disc should then eject.

there is a menu option which tells you which disk you have so you don't need to take it from the drive.

Firstly, thanks vmssys for your details, the part number are disc number are both correct:

Part Number:PZ485-T01EU-06

Disc-identifier:86271-24122

I've visited the dealer today and after some negotiation they provided me with the latest 2006/07 maps for Europe. :P

I am not sure that the dvd is original (it looks like it might be possible to copy the dvd) but it works fine and I now have fully working satnav in my T4.

Thanks again

BTW, the whole unit together with DVD player is located under the front passenger seat.

Glad you got sorted.

Now can you help me. I never got a manual for my satnav system and although I know how it works I don't know what the voice commands are.

Do you have a manual and if so can you copy the voice commands page.

Avensis - Owner's Manual:

Page 191 - it shows that voice command is only on cars with SatNav (?), microphone is located in the left hand hole, next to the passenger light button on the roof (rear view window). Speech Command button is located on the right hand side of the steering wheel.

Page 192 - The speech command system allows you to operate the audio system with your voice (English or German[ny]). INFORMATION: In the following conditions, the system may not recognize the command properly:

- The command is not correct or clear

- There are some noise such wind noise, etc.

[Continues with instructions]

1. Push the speech command button (on the steering wheel)

A beep sounds. If the navigation display is on, and indicator is shown at the top left of the display [this looks like a man talking into a mic]

2. Give a command after the beep or an indicator is shown in the display if the navigation display is on.

It is unnecessary to speak directly into the microphone when givin a command.

page 193 - Command list <English>

Radio - Changers to radio mode

AM - Changes to AM mode

FM - self explanatory

FM 1 - self explanatory

FM 2 - self explanatory

FM 3 - self explanatory

LW- self explanatory

Long Wave - self explanatory

Audio On - Turns audio on

Audio Off - Turns audio off

There are more commands listed such as:

Help - self explanatory

Radio Help - self explanatory

Tape Help - self explanatory

Disc Help - self explanatory

Let me know if you get it to work at all, I can scan more commands (pages listed above) over the weekend.

I had no luck with these instructions on my T4.

Good luck.

Thanks for that but I have the owners manual and have read this section.

For example if you say "Home" it will ask if you want to set your home destination.

If you say something it does not understand, you may get a message saying "map is showing ..."

There are NO satnav specific commands in the owners manual. I therefore assume there is a separate manual for cars with the upgraded system.

you will find nothing in the owners manual about setting the destination on the tns310.

maybe a trip to my local dealer is in order.

I thought at first that you wanted SatNav instructions.

I skimmed through the TNS300ETA owner's manual, its index and content and there is not a single mention of voice or speech commands in index or content of the manual.

So it appears that both TNS300ETA and TNS310ETA manuals are not mentioning a word about speech commands.

AAaaaahhhh

OK you have confirmed my suspicions that there is a separate satnav book albeit without the voice instructions.

I'm surprised there are no voice instructions in the tns300 manual

Try some - its all very confusing. you can definately set home or saved points 1-5 as destinations whilst driving.

OK, my task for this weekend is to visit the local jap centre and firstly try obtaining the tns300 manual and also I'm going to ask if there is a definative set of voice commands for the satnav.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Ok for my first post. im going to disrespect my Avensis but hey such is life.. I bought 2 weeks a go a 2004 T-Spirit D4D with colour screen sat nav and cd changer!! anyway moving on the voice command is pants in my personal opinion maybe i dont speak clearly enough for it im not sure ..sometimes it works reeally well allows me too move track up on cd move cd up on changer but then.....

It will also decide i told it too change the POI i have set up so i go from parking, petrol stations, hotels , restaurants nad something else to having only sports centres set up, and thats irratating to have that happen too say the least.. my advice is learn the useful ones cd up go home track down etc the rest forget about it only gets confused by them, this is only my experience but makes my girlfriend laugh when i tell it to do something and it does something totally diffrent.

its even harder to use when you don't know the correct commands!

I tried a command earlier (can't remember what I was trying) and it changed screen to dual map mode. So I then said "single map" and it changed back.

Also I changed the map orientation (north up) but I don't know how. I had to use the joystick to change it back.

at least I can set home easily! Home and Yes.

Hi I have 04 Avensis Spirit with sat nav want to upgrade my disc to the latest maps for Europe. The price that Toyota charge is unbelievable ie £150+ for DVD. I could go out and buy a tomtom, Garmin etc for that sort of money. Question is can you copy the DVD??. I see a lot of discs offered on eBay and quite honestly think toyota cost should be more realistic ie say £50.00 as new versions come out each year. I keep finding petrol stations in particular that no longer exist.............annoying.

Hi,

Yes it is possible to copy the disc, I am using one with 2006-2007 maps in my 53 plate T Spirit, downloaded it online burned it to a dual layer DVD and it works fine.

BTW yes there is a seperate 131 page Sat Nav instruction Manual, this has 9 pages of English Voice comands in the Apendix at the back!

I agree with the previus posts tho about it changing the currently shown points of interest frequently instead of following a simple comandd. Possibly it does this when it does understand, it is anoying tho! I also can't seem to find out how to cancel the guidance if I change my mind, or once I am close to home? Is suspend guidance the only way? I will check the manual. If I et a chance I will scan the commands and post them!

Just a word of caution for people who set their satnav with home!!!!

If you car is stolen it would be easy for the thiefs to find where you live due to the setting in satnav.

It has happened to a friend of mine.

His car got stolen at work and the thief/s went to his home and robbed this stuff in his home!!!

maybe it would be best to save a nearest police station into home :) and your home in one of the spare slots with others..

I am trying to use the voice commands but nothing happens, even when i press the button on the right of the steering wheel not even the so-called picture appears on the screen???

How many bl**dy manauls are there for the satnav?? Mine was in a plastic film and I only had 1 main one and loads of smaller manuals.. The disc was already in the system but I have know found out that it is 2003-2004!!!

BENN74, could you pm me a link or information on getting the updated disc downloaded please...

  • 4 weeks later...

I've just taken out the sat-nav (TNS310) DVD (it was put in by the dealer) and noticed it is a bit scuffed, and slightly more worrying, there's a noticable ring half way from centre to edge that looks as if something has contacted it while rotating. So perhaps I should try to make a backup. Anyone know what type of dual layer disc works (+R, -R, RAM)?

Thanks.

You need a Dual Layer +R disc for your system to work properly, it will not wok with a -R disc.

Hope you get it sorted.

I found a copy of the latest (well at the time 2006-2007) map update DVD on pirate bay, just searched for tns300 on the site found it, downloaded the torrent, un rared and burned. Works perfect!
