Average Fuel Consumption Meter

I am wondering if anyone else is having this issue with the Average Fuel Consumption meter on the on-board computer. You know how when you fill up the tank, the average resets itself? Well, I find this reset happens several times during the course of the tank. Typically if I am parked on a hill and turn to the right when pulling off, then the average resets itself (along with the projected Range). Also, if I reverse down a hill and turn to the left, the same thing happens. I can be driving quite sedately and the reset happens.

Anyhow, it is a bit annoying, as it is kind-of renders the average figure useless. I know it is just an estimate (I also work it out manually based on the petrol used / kilometres travelled), but I never see an average consumption for the tank, but simply an average since the last time the computer decided to reset it, which is who-knows-when.

I suspect the problem may be related to the location of the sensor in the tank which possibly resets when it gets splashed with petrol. Does this happen to anyone else?

Thanks,

Paul

We usually reset our average MPG manually when we fill up.

Having said that, I have noticed it reset itself while driving at least twice over the last couple of thousand miles (we normally leave the computer showing the av. mpg).

I had thought about mentioning this to the dealer, as I was under the impression that it was only the 'miles remaining' figure that automatically resets after a refill.

Although if it involves pulling the dash apart to fix it.....I think I can live with it!

Mine resets every time I fill the tank & occasionally in between as well.

I know what you mean any car I have had in the past when you looked at the average miles per gal it was based on that tank of petrol but on the verso its seems to be based on the last 50 miles of driving you do not get an overall figure.

Mine does reset itself when it is filled up.
