This is my 2001 silver 1.0 Yaris so far. I've done the following:

Exterior:

* Removed the orange plastic bit in front indicators

* Removed the red plastic bit in left taillight (will have to fit a bright red LED bulb here instead)

* Painted the headlights plastic housing matt black

* Black matt vinyl eye lids

* Clear wing indicators with replaceable bulbs

* LED bulbs for indicators all around

* Rebuilt 3rd brake light with 12 high intensity LEDs instead of stock bulb

* Painted the grill black (needs to be redone cause the paint chip really easy or maybe a P2 grill)

* Mattig roof spoiler glued with Sikaflex 521 UV

* Colour coded wing mirrors

* Fitted chromed exhaust tip

Interior:

* Sound proofed all 5 doors, rear inner wheel archs, boot and rear floor under rear seats

To do:

* Complete my LED taillights

* Black matt vinyl on b-pillars

Here is a small preview of the LED units:

LED tail lights will be finished next week. The units are ready but I haven't had the time to fit them yet. There will be an update when done! :)

O yeah forgot to ask, 1. How'd you remove the rear inner red bit? What does it look like after? how easy was it? and 2. What have you replace the wing indicators with or what have you done with them to make them clear as look standard in pics?

Cheers

1. The main plastic lens can be removed by "bending" the grey plastic housing over the notches on the lens. Be careful not to break these "notches" because the plastic is quite britle! I broke one but fixed it with superglue. It might help to heat the taillight a little with your/your girlfriends hair dryer.

The small red plastic piece is really easy to remove when the lens is off. There is a metal reflector behind it (which can be removed too) and the taillights will look the same on both sides without these parts (I've kept the reflector).

2. I found some clear wing indicators on eBay a while ago. Haven't seen them for a long time now... I guess they are quite rare. They allow you to replace the bulb and I fitted amber high intensity leds instead. I had to connect a load resistor in parallel to make the flashing relay work correct. The leds uses much less power which will make the car to indicate like a bulb is faulty by flashing the indicators faster.

I hope that you got wiser... :)

Not too keen on the imitation alloy wheels...

:wacko:

Real 15" och 16" alloys would be great but I have other economic priorities right now. I got a summer cottage that needs some new paint and maintenance. Replacing the Speakers is another plan I have... We'll see about that in the future :)

Cool thanks anemo! Any close ups of those side repeaters? Were they standard replacements or custom ones you mounted? (glued on?)

Dude you need to do that to your front n rears too! Looks much better whilst still looking standard and cost next to nothing!

Removing headlamps is so easy mate! Just undo bolt in each wheel arch that holds upper bumper on and then the one below bonnet catch and just lean the bumper down onto like a cushion and can easily remove it! Then just follow the guide! And yeah you spray it and i can't spray for toffee either but it inside so don't really matter (mine had bit of drip mark but couldn't see outside!)

Another picture:

was sound proofing a big job? expensive?

It was quite cheap and I used thin self adhesive bitumen and foam sheets. I also glued the plastic plugs that hold the door panels with silicon glue to get rid of the rattle. Removing/refitting the panels can be a little bit hard (I read how to do it in Haynes). Good luck! :)

Rear inner wheel arcs now looks like this under the panels:

They are custom ones and look and mount the same way as the stock ones. The only difference is that the bulbs are fitted in a rubber piece that can be pulled out of the housing. I will try to take some pictures of them and check what brand they are next week. I have to go away for a few days... :)
