Door Mirror Detached

Whilst driving towards traffic lights, someone decided to open their car door without looking, thereby decapitating my passenger door mirror completely. The person had parked their car on a verge which resulted in 1 mirror less to myself. Problem is, would it be possible to attach it back again ? - there were some scrapes to the car door but I'll have to sort that out later. Another question is, will this fail the MOT test ? - it's coming up in about a week's time. Thanks in advance.
