Tech Pack (dab + Bluetooth) Option Now Not Available

I ordered a new Avensis T3-S D4D with Tech Pack (bluetooth + DAB) on Sunday from a local dealer. On Monday he contacted me and told me there were two bits of bad news. 1) not available for 6-8 weeks unless I changed the colour to Black and 2)the Teck Pack does not work with the TNS700 so I could not have it.

Although when I ordered it the Price List had the Tech Pack as an option (£525 - not cheap but I needed it), the Price List and other litrature has since been withdrawn and new version printed without the option.

I was told that the pack "interfered with" the satnav. No idea when it would be fixed and available. No idea if the Pack could be added later when the R&D boys have sorted out the problem.

Not happy. Ordered the car anyway with the long delivery and without the pack.

I thought that the TNS700 with Tech Pack have been available on the RAV4 for many months. So why a problem with the Avensis?

Hi There.

I have had the same issue. I have negotiated with the dealarship to have the Blue Tooth system separately fitted as it is only the DAB that is not compatible. I also was told the DAB could not be added after delivery.

I also was given 12th July if I ordered yesterday but I am going to order and delay registration and delivery until 1st August and have it on a 57 plate. The problem with the DAB radio may be sorted by the also.

Cheers Ian

I was told by my dealership that I could have just bluetooth but it would not be controlled from the buttons on the steering wheel. Separate controls would be stuck on the dashboard somewhere and it would not be integrated very well with the TNS700

Hi Iantheimp,

Can I ask : did your dealer tell you which third-party bluetooth option are compatible with the TNS700?

I got a new Avensis in April and am generally very happy with it. When I bought the car, I was very gently steered away from the tech pack option, and it was only later that the dealer told me there were some significant technical problems with the tech pack that had to be resolved and that I should use some third-party solutions. If I recall correctly, it was the bluetooth that was causing the problems but they were very non-specific about the problems.

Since then, I have been pounding away at Toyota (both dealer and Toyota UK) trying to get the promised information about which 3rd party bluetooth options are compatible with the TNS700, and its been a frustrating aspect of an otherwise pleasant purchasing experience.

So any clues/information would be gratefully received.

Thanks, John

Careful you don't end up with an 07 - 57s start on 1st September! ;)

Thanks for the reminder I thought it was August. I will have to think again and hope for a earlier delivery on an 07.

I didn't think that the T3X had the TNS700 satnav. I originally ordered the T3S, Fortunately it was on a long delivery and the TR was announced on June 1st. Only 500 GBP more. So I changed the order. I have now had my TR diesel Tourer for about a month. Very pleased with it.

Strange thing, the TNS700 appears to be set-up for a left-hand drive. The navigation voice commands come from the passenger speaker and music continues from the driver's speaker. I cannot find a way to change this, but I will start a new topic on this subject.

Hi everbody,

I do have an Avensis 07 with the Toyota bluetooth kit and the touch screen navigator, and I can confirm this incompatibility. For some 20-30 minutes after starting the ride the navigator doesn't process correctly the commands from the steering wheel buttons. Bot the up and down bottons result in the same, back to the previous song or radio channel. In addtition the mute button doesn't work at all. Also there is some random sound chopping when the CD is playing.

I'm still waiting for the solution, but meanwhile users of other bluetooth systems claim that they don't have this kind of problems.

Regards

I am interested in your discussion and am sorry to join in late.

I have just changed my car from an Estate T3-s to an Estate TR 2.2 very happy with the car and the power is amazing.

One niggle though was that I wanted the Toyota bluetooth system to go along with the new version Sat Nav. I was told just as I was about to pick up the car that the bluetooth was no longer compatible with the new Sat Nav system no mention of the DAB radio but I do not think this model comes with DAB radio. Anyway I have been asking and asking about when they might fix the problem and I am told they are working on it. Does anyone know anything?

I am talking about the new colour screen tilting where the radio used to be with DVD map. The blue tooth would system would bring in my contacts page from my pda and would allow voice recognition calling and answering of phone using button on steering wheel. A mike would be fitted above visor. The caller details and contacts list would be shown on the touch screen.

Can anyone cast a light?

Correct the T3X does not come with a satnav but comes with a lot more toys, the radio/CD can still be supplied as a dab radio again without the satnav. I already have a satnav that can be moved between cars and is also easy to upgrade with new maps and speed camera info of the web site.

It seems that these incompatibility problems between the satnav system and the toyota bluetooth are solved. At least there is one recent avensis owner in Spain who describes a positive performing in his new equipment. Now we have to see what Toyota does with the older owners who are suffering of this problem.
