Anyway the CRV and X-Trail are not ugly, they are VERY ugly.

I do agree that the 'Satisfaction' part of the survey is perhaps mis-representative.

People who buy an expensive or percieved prestige marque may be dissatisfied by the most minor of problems or by the quality of service in the dealers if they're not fawned over in the right way, or even by the quality of the cappucino!!!

Likewise, people who buy a percieved 'cheaper' car, may be astounded by the fact that they have actually bought something that hasn't fallen apart or blown up within 12 months.

Like NMaria mentioned, I too would like to see a survey based solely on the car's physical reliability and it's real world running costs. That would surely be a better indicator of a brand/car's quality.

I agree, with Dave.M, you can't guarantee quality by the amount you spend on a car or "just because it's a BMW"!!

I suppose the other factor that is important too, is personal choice - for God's sake, enough people must be happy enough to go out and spend their hard earned cash on 'ugly' cars like the CRV and the X-Trail.

I was almost sold on buying an X3, until I realised that part of the reason I wanted one was that I wanted to play up to other's perceptions of me if they saw me driving one!!!!!

On the day I bought my T180, I had actually gone to buy a Land Cruiser LC5, as I wanted to climb the next step of the ladder into what is percieved as a better car. A full day's test drive told me otherwise (infact I was ready to leave Toyota ownership altogether after that until the saleman put me into the T180 for a quick spin) - but I'm sure others will drive a Land Cruiser and decide that it's the car for them.

As has already been said countless times, yer pays yer money and yer takes yer chances - but it would be handy to be able know if you are walking into a nightmare - cos the salesmen sure ain't gonna tell you!!
