Bizarre Yaris Experience!

There have been many threads in the past on the Phase2 range (P1 lovers, look away now! :P )

I had a bizarre experience tonight which shocked the living bejesus out of me!

Took my Mum to Tescos for the weekly shop and afterwards pulled in to get some petrol. Filled her up, paid, got in the car and said to Mum "I bet I'll have 350 miles on my range" - it showed 349 and we joked about me being a mile off...

Drove off the forecourt and the range started going down one by one

349....348....347....346....345....344 etc etc

Thought nothing of it, even Mum said "Whats it doing?" and I replied "Its playing silly buggers again" - the range has never been a reliable tool!

My house is about a mile and a half from Tescos and it just kept going down and down.... got to the traffic lights 500 yards from my house and it was down to 149 miles.... by this point I was seriously worried.... did I have a fuel leak? Was my car dying on me? Could I make it home in time? I'm going away this weekend, trust my car to break down on me before I go! :ffs: :wacko:

Got to the house, parked up, unloaded the shopping and checked for leaks - there were none. The fuel guage showed a full tank. Drove her round the block and it continued to go down.... got back home, logged onto TOC and searched for previous range issues

Found about resetting the range & mpg - did it - we have success! :D

She went back up to a respectable 330 miles and stuck there! Drove her round for a bit without issue!

There are two morals to this story - Firstly, if you have a problem.... Come on TOC and do a search! :thumbsup: Secondly, don't trust the range.... EVER! :lol:

Tell me about it John Boy.... if I drove a stupidly fast & fuel-drinking car then it wouldnt bother me! :lol::lol:

I figured the computer thought I was averaging 1mpg or something and went a bit freaky! :lol:

Imagine that - a 1.3 86bhp Yaris that averaged 1 mile per gallon! :lol::lol::lol:

Even if you were driving it, bouncing it off the rev limiter in the first 4 gears, then you still wouldn't use that much fuel!!!

You're right though - never trust the fuel range.

Mine goes up and down. I can put my foot down one minute, and drive "old man stylee" the next, and the tank range will drop a few miles, and then come back up again...
