New Yaris Steering Wheel Query

Hey everyone.

Brought my new Yaris Zinc 1.3 5dr the middle of March.

Have noticed a creek on my steering wheel after it reached a few hundred miles.

Also the paint that coveres the top of the geear lever is flaking off.

Would anyone know why the steering wheel is creaking?

Oh and have to say that I my Yaris. So much room in it for a small car.

Is it creaking when you turn the wheel or creaking from somewhere else?

Suggest that you take it back to the supplying dealer either now or when the first service is due if you can wait that long.

They should be able to sort it out under warranty

Do you wear a ring that is chipping off the gear lever?

Yes I do wear a ring, but I would have thought Toyota would have better quality than this.

another one creaking ! my wife owns a 3 month old yaris zinc and guess what it to is creaking when the steering wheel is turned.

i will probably have a go at silencing the noise myself, having had a look if you turn the wheel half a turn you can see 2 screws on the steering colum facing you,which when undone will release the steering colum cowling its then just a matter of good old mr wd40. not too much though.

yes i know its under warranty but if its going to be an easy fix then it will save the hassle of going back to the happy centre. i will keep you posted.

oh by the way its a great car a lot smoother than the old model yaris we replaced it with we got the 1.3 which is quiet a lot smoother,which one did you get ?

the old one we had was a 1 litre s model on a y plate and it never misbehaved in the seven years we had it,this new one has got a hard act to follow.

I had a 1.3 Zinc 5dr. Originally wanted a second hand T-Spirit, but it was cheaper to go for the Zinc!

Yes, very smooth, and all round a great car. I thought the mpg would have been better as I seem to get less than my old V reg Corsa. Apart from that, I think I'm going to keep it forever!!!!!!

My boyfriend thinks its basic as it hasnt got all the gadgets you would find on a Fiesta Ghia, but I keep reminding him that its far more realiable, and I think a less common car. Oh and also 6 more air bags!
