Update On My Old T Sport

Well I got a call out of the blue today from the guy who bought my T Sport back in August and I'm stumped.

The car is in for an ECU change with Toyota and the reason he called is because my ECU had been tampered with when Dastek attempted to run the superchip and Toyota were wary about touching it. Dastek never programmed the chip to my car as it didn't work - it wouldn't engage the lift...

The problem he's experiencing at the moment is no lift whatsoever, so automatically I think "lift bolts", but he told me 'my' car has had the cams and bolts replaced already and the guy said the whole engine has basically been dropped out at some stage for work!!!

Now either this guy is caning the hell out of it (he was 19 when he bought it) or my car had a major fault!!! Anyone else with similar stories??? He's still running it with the K&N Typhoon kit, but Dastek never made any modifications when it was with them (back in March last year)...

Pisses me off a little as I loved that car and have thought many a time about getting another one at some stage... :(

Oh and for anyone who doesn't know me it was a facelift '54 reg NA T Sport. Had all the usual warranty work done when I had it (gearbox rebuild, tensioner bearing etc.)

first case i've ever heard of!

For a start, the chip if it had of been screwed from any kind of tampering! It would have been killed straight away! Not a year or two after!

Sounds to me like Mr T looking at using any old excuse for out of warranty claims! Talking about which is it still in warranty.

Anyway this may sound harsh but you sold thae car as seen right, so he should have had checks on it so from my point of view he might be trying to pull a quickie!

The car had all the necessary work done right! It left you in perfect order, and again going back to my first comment, if it had have been mucked about with first thing is, the ecu would screw it right away not a year or two down the line!

The CTS ecu is a dam tempremental thing, I had a complete shut down because of a faulty wire on the mass air flow, and she wouldn't start! So monkey-ing about with anything will cause it to trip right away. In my opinion!

Yeah I hear ya when you say if something was wrong when wiring up the ECU it would have died straight away!

Funny thing is, Toyota aren't backing out of any warranty work which is lucky for the lad - they were just wondering what the loom was before removing it!

He must have really abused the engine! :crybaby:

Sorry did i seem to get a bit pasionate :D

I know how much you looked after that car, and if i'd have had the money I would have put in a bid for it. Lookes gorgeous in red

Its a shame it seems to have screwed up, hopefully he'll be able to get it sorted through warranty tho!

Hey Gary just saw your forum on this and thought i'd give you a more detailed idea of wat happened, here we go. Was driving the car round town when this happened, the car managed to be miss shifted into first gear, last reading on ecu was 51 mph at 8250rpm, pistons hit the head and engine wrecked pretty much.

The car had been in toyota for a least a week after this happened before i even knew wat was going on, they came back with a bill of 3500, which i was fully responsible to pay for apparently, which i didn't believe cos i rang them a week prior to this and said to them the clutch was squeaking when engaged and not letting the car go into gear freely at times etc and i just hadn't had a chance to take it up to them with work.

So we got an independent engineer to go in and do a run down on the car, he came back that warranty work that had been done previously on the car to the clutch had been carried out wrong and the clutch was not fitted properly which he believes was their fault and why the car miss shifted and toyota should've been fully responsible for paying out, he also found the the cams had been badly worn due to a manufacturing default, so toyota covered the cams, and i had to pay for the other engine work, as it was a even a fight to get any warranty work done, along the way other stuff was ballsed up by the garage so in total it took eight weeks to fix the car got it back and the next day when i had it out a spring dropped out of one of the valves and shot up and hit the head, toyota held there hands up and said it was a fault with their work and they dropped a brand new engine into second time.

When i got the car back after another 2 weeks the engine management lights kept coming on, so they believed it was a problem with the ecu, and it was, when they were replacing it though they discovered that three of the main wiring looms had been spliced into and cut, and their conclusion was the reason why the car fired the lights on at 6000rpm was because the vvtli controller wasn't getting the right voltage to kick into the high cams because of the way the wires had been left spliced into and cut and other extra wires running with the loom that shouldn't have been there, they said it was a mess they even sent it to lexus to get them to double check, so they were looking for 4500 for the wiring looms, which i obviously wasn't going to pay for.

So i'm going to get a new one today, and your car is still gleamin, even had the wee car park dents an all fixed on it, cost me like a grand but im fussy to, so she wasn't abused. To this day and after 4 months of hell i'll never know wat actually happened, but i truely believe the clutch had been fitted wrong cos i have it in my garage and the private engineer has showed me his thoughts on it he even wanted me to take them to court to fight them thats how much he believed the engine damage that occured was due to their workmanship, well and as for the wires could take it up with dastek but really dont have the energy to be chasin this about no more, but hey i truely loved the car to bits and im real sad to see it go. Excuse the grammar and spellin in a rush here!! Later
