Brake Pedal Travel On New Avensis

I've had my Avensis Tourer for just over a week now and have just gone over 300 miles on the clock.

Whilst I am enjoying my Avensis, I have just one small concern. A few days ago I had occasion to stop fairly sharply for the first time and I had the impression of a somewhat spongy pedal!

On closer examination later - with car stopped & engine running/hand brake off - there was about 1 1/2+ inches [ 4 cms] of travel in the pedal before resistance is felt and then it's a bit spongy. Now it's still early days as the car has only done 300 odd miles so things might be bedding in BUT IS THIS NORMAL??

If there is normally some fair amount of travel in the pedal then that may explain it.

Problem is that on my Citroen I just had to touch the brakes and a firm resistance was there with virtually no pedal travel and, of course, I've become used to that.

brand new flat pads on brand new flat disks. usually bedded sooner than that unless you did 300 miles on the motorway without braking.

your citroen probably had their famous electric brake pedal, not sure if your avensis does but the pedal definitely shouldn't be spongey.

put it back on the forecourt and have it looked at if it feels spongy - don't take chances with brakes.
