Hi,

I've recently had a dent (before pictured below) repaired on the front driver side wing, but I've now noticed when the did the repair last week that my engine bay is covered in a white llayer of dust, so can i do an engine steam clean and is there anything I should do/say/observe when I get it done

Thanks for your help in advance

Neil

Sorry for posting this Twice - my computer was playing, thought it had crashed

yeah it wont hurt, give it a spray over with TFR (traffic film remover) and steam away. one tip keep the engine running and make sure the engine is ho. dont direct the jet directly onto wiring plugs

My two pence worth. Take the time to do it by hand using GUNK, just spary on and use with wirewool or Autoglym do an engine de-greaser comes up really spiffy.

as a bloke i'd be lazy and get it steam cleaned, as per earlier leave the engine running, make sure its hot and most of all do not switch the car off immediately after u've had it washed, take it for a spin after its had a shower.

just in case keep some jump leads with u, if not and the car doesnt start jump start it.

(i'm not a saxo driver)

i had the saxo steamn cleaned and turned it off after the wash, took ages to start again. it ok now though.

Good luck mate, i'm sure it will be fine.

I was very impressed with the AutoGlym engine cleaner, spray on, agitate with a paintbrush and hose off. The Celica engine was not too bad to start with but also used it on my Dad's 1999 Hyundai Accent which was fairly dirty. Both came up a treat, here is pic of the Celica engine, can't take one of the Accent at the moment as the ole lad is out and about

No problems, I also used the Autoglym engine cleaner on the Celica's temporary replacement, have some before and after pics, I think you will be suitably impressed

parhaps use some WD40 on any electrical terminals/conector blocks you see, also avoid the starter and alternator with the water when you are hosing off

By the way it's a Rover L series diesel engine, non intercooled so 85bhp but a few turns of a spanner sees 100bhp (increased fueling and boost), 50 to 70 in 4th achieved in 6.4 seconds, fantastic torque out of it. No celica admittedly.
