56 Avensis - Front Door Seals

Hi All - newbie here - please be gentle.

Ive searched this forum but not found anyone with similar problem.

Have New Avensis - whenever it rains overnight, the black plastic footplate on both the driver and passenger side is puddled. I am concerned that whatever the footplate is attached to will rust before its time.

Local Toyota garage told me that they thought it was acceptable. I would not accept this and Ive asked them to investigate further.

Is it the rubber seals? Is it what theyre glued on with? Luckily the water does not come inside the car or on the carpets.

Thoughts?

Hi, Froggitt

The “Black Plastic Footplate's” you mention are External to the Door Seals, Therefore water will have asses to this area when it rains, or the car is washed, this is perfectly normal, as water will enter through the door window seals and exit through the “Drain Holes” at the underside of the door panel, and also be driven in past the leading edge of the door hinge area. No water should enter to the interior of the cabin past the Door Seals.

Hope you enjoy the Avensis Experience. ……. Sisavan

I get little or no water there after rain or washing and I really slosh the water around. Seems excessive in my view.

I have a 2002 (Old Shape Avensis) Although this area gets wet, it does not Hold the Water as your photograph indicates, why is it not draining away along the top of the Sill?

Regards,......... sisavan.

I have no idea......thats why I took it into Toyota.

Today they said they are changing the Poser Mouldings, whatever they are, as they think that this will stop the water getting there in the first place......I dont think its meant to get so flooded as it doesnt drain in any way, and they are looking now to stop the water getting there in the first place.

Does anyone else with a new shape Avensis have water in this area?

Seems quite a lot I must say, mine never collects any water there, in the 2 years I have had it. As mentioned though it IS outside the door seals so carpets shouldn't get wet...which is something!

That amount seems excessive. My 53 plate T4 does not have that amount of water there. Hope your dealer sorted it.
