Hi, I have a st182 and no user manual

There is a warning light that comes on sporadically then goes away, can be on for 5 miles then off the next etc.

It is on the left of the dash at the bottom, and is an Exclaimation mark in a circle (i think this is in brackets too)

Any one have any idea what this is, Its not the handbrake as that is the (P) light.

hmm??? wonderingn if its a danger to drive

Think it is to do with the braking system, you should check the fluid to make sure that it is not too low.

The breaks seem very responseive, but ill check the fluid levels anyway, it seems to come and go, so wasnt sure if it was a loose wire, some sensor at the midline, or what.

Thanks for your reply.

i dont supose anyone knows where to get an online copy of old user manuals? it would be good to read up the basics :)

on a side note, what the process in getting the remote alarm key fob copied? (and the cost). I dont like the idea of losing this. as i only have one key and one remote fob

  • 2 weeks later...

Actual wording in the manual for that symbol states

"If parking brake is off, stop immediately and contact Toyota Dealer" now i seem to remember from my old car ( a renault cliosport) that that light flickered on and off occasionally...then i found my brake pads and discs to be worn and needed replacement. I beleive there to be some prox sensor of sorts to indicate when brakes need changine. You may not feel any degredation but you might be damaging the discs. Perhaps you may be able to get away with just changing the pads atm, but the discs may need changing if u continue to drive like it. Might be worth taking a peek at them!

Your 100% right, it was the pads that were wearing thin, as a few weeks later there was some metal on metal noise when braking, so i stuck it in the garage and got a full set of new pads, and Bingo, the warning light was no more.

thanks!

those sensors can be in 50% of the pads , so say if you paid £100 for a good set of pads and the light came on , the pads were only half worn away . So dont rush out and replace when the light comes on , simply check the pads yourself from time to time , turn the wheels to full lock and you will see the pads in the caliper.

you can also cut the wires at the pad end and join them together ,this rids you of the light also.
