Question:

1) What are the problems with driving a 1992 mr2 turbo whose turbo bearings have gone (broken)

2) Can the turbo just be simply removed from the car?

any advice would be great!

hi m8,

1) it can be but i wouldn't advise it, depends how bad it really is...

2) not really unless you plan to remove it for direct replacement, being a '92 model it will be the ct26, get yourself over to IMOC you should be able to pick one up fairly cheap over there on the for sale forum.

yep if the bearings are shot then 1, it will burn shed loads of oil and 2, if the blades of the compressor start breaking up from running on the housing guess where the bits are going!!!

not really practical removing it to drive it round as the oil feed and return will need to be blanked and the exhaust may be a bit too loud for Mr Plod.

as said plenty of CT26's about for reasonable money, or CT20's for a bit more, either will fit as they are interchangable
