Help My Sick Compressor!

Hi to all!!! this is my first post and what a shame it is a fault and fix post, anyway here goes.

Just bought a 56 plate black Comppressor from Eden bridge toyota near Stevenage. On the way back to lincoln the engine management light came on the traction control light and vsc light. The car also started making a really tappety noise from the engine under hard acceleration, the rac man came out and the fault finder said the "heated oxygen sensor heater circuit" was faulty and he reset it. Everything went back to normal except the engine noise but a mile down the road and all the same warning lights came back on.

My dealer said he had filled it up with super unleaded, but what if he used normal do you think this could have caused the tappety noise and warning lights? Any ideas? Anyone had the same problem? I was reading somewhere about the exhaust having something to do with engine noise in somwones post? not sure!!!

HELP HELP!!!!

Take the car back to your dealer and get them to investigate.. I recently had a problem with my speedometer and the power steering light.. it turned out to be the EU Emissions box (whatever that does).. My dealer couldn't find the problem.. so I called in TTE themselves who fixed it in no time.

As for the fuel question.. I am led to beleive that useing anything less than 98ron will cause a knocking in the engine.. as far as I recvall BP Super Unleaded is only 97ron.. so the best choice is Shell V-Power (or Tesco 99ron.. but that leads to the supermarket fuel debate )

Here is a link to my thread... don't be afraid to call in TTE if your dealer is struggling to fix it.... http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=66245

Welcome to TOC

Keep us posted and let us know how you get on.

Your problem could be a faulty ground but just keep taking back to the dealer until it is fixed.

In the early days I dealt with TTE until the dealer got their act together.

The fuel issue is another thing completely.

If normal fuel is put in a Compressor, it reverts to a safe tune and pulls back the timing to protect itself.

Simply refilling with super unleaded will not revert it to its proper tune.

The ecu has to be reset when the car has a full tank of super unleaded.

If you are not sure, use a whole tank of super then refill before resetting

I've had this problem with my car for the last 6 months and only this week do I suspect what the problem might be, exactly the same symptoms as you've stated engine management light and VSC and TC lights come on, toyota under warranty have changed the oxygen sensor and fuel sensors, then they changed the ECU which seemed to have cured the issue until this week when Shell were out of V Power and I filled the car with normal fuel and guess what this week lights have come back on, and when I think about it my sensor issue's started roughly when i started using V Power fuel, might just be a coincidence and have nothing to do with the fuel but its strange the week I use normal fuel the problem comes back...

Don't know about your engine noises though mine makes a sort of metallic almost scraping noise which i could only discribe as like a loose dry chain it makes it most when engine braking fairly hard, toyota have assured me its present on all corolla engines so don't know if perhaps its what you can hear?

Yeah it is sort of like a chain noise i guess! lol the problem with noises is that everyone hears and describes different things! Mine is when you change up an hard acceleration in 3rd upwards. I know the guys at my toyota so i will ask them to reset the ecu after i have put a tank of Shell in! The car is in the garage as i write this so i will report back what has been done. I think they will ust replace the sensor? we will see?

cheers Paul

I'm going to give toyota a ring tomorrow, i've been driving around all week with normal fuel and the all 3 lights on all week, put V Power in yesterday and today the lights have gone out, it must be fuel related?

Going to give toyota a ring tomorrow just to see if this is possible, curious to find out if the new ecu was altered to run with higher octane fuel and does it mean i have to run with V Power or similiar fuel to avoid future sensor issue's...

Well i got rid of the tank of normal yesterday and filled it with Shell v power, i reset the ecu myself. What a difference much better. Lights still on mind. It is supposed to be going in the stealers for a new oxygen sensor this week!
