Hi,

I've just bought an Avensis T3X and want to change the halogen bulbs to xenon bulbs. Does anyone know the various bulb sizes?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

Not sure of the bulb sizes but changing the bulbs is a pig of a job. It is recommended that you remove the front bumper to make fitting easier, that or be prepaired for lots of cursing :ffs: and cut hands.

There are lots of post on the site detailing how to fit new bulbs and I seem to remember reading somewhere how to remove the front bumper.

Good Luck

Chris.

Hi,

They are H7 bulbs you need, Access is very limited to change them so try and get someone with small hand to fit them!!!

I never thought that I was to scratch my hands, its just flippin' tight. Take your time and make note of how the

'lids' come off and you will be OK, the lug at the back is iffy to get into position, once that's done its easy.

see elsewhere in the forum or more on this.

I really don't know how you managed to get the lids off. First of all, on each side, something on the car is blocking the lids from coming off. The lids would clip off from one side, but I couldn't see or feel the other side as it was just too tight. On the car's right, the waterbottle blocks the lid from coming off. On the left, some sort of wiring loom stops it coming off. My right hand has scrtches all over it, it got trapped a couple of times! I've given up for now as it just seems to me it's not possible to get those lids off without removing the bumper and then removing the headlights.

I would also like to add that if you don't know the bulb sizes it states what they are on the headlamp unit.

the lid has a clip (visible) and on the other side a 'lug' that locks the lid onto the housing.

unclip the lid, open slightly and draw horizontally towards the centre line of the car.

On the bottle side you have to bend the bottle neck back approx 2" or so until us get the lid off, I found that dropping the lid downwards was easiest

rather than taking it out, this gives u space to remove/fit the bulbs. The trick, in my opinion, is to practice (use a torch) to get the lug into the hole, you have to hold, test the angle and then go for it, once in the lid will close with a snap, get it wrong and u'll start again, this is the tricky bit. Do it once and you'll not hesitate to do it again. Good luck

This sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I read a post today of a guy in Ireland who took his bumper off to get two new headlamp units in. This sounds like the route for me. The bottleneck surely couldn't be put back 2" without breaking? I put some pressure on the bottleneck and it felt like it was going to snap. Like I say, the bumper is going to have to come off.

Hello,

Yeah talking about changing the bulbs on the front off an avensis I remember having to change mine a while back due to being stopped by police for extremely DIM bulbs and it was a bit tight but didnt experience any problems and definetely didnt need to remove bumper.

maybe 2" is more than you need, just can not remember, bend the neck back so that the lid come off and drop down and get jammed, it works. Drop the bumper if you want to. I got the bulbs done in 30 -40 minutes as explained, It'll will be quicker next time.

I may try and put in to practice what you have explained. Just a shame you don't live closer, you could have done it for me!
