Wide Body Mr2 Kit Price...

I was looking at the Widebody kit for the MR2.

The kit was £1600 + VAT. This was without painting and fitting.

It was from CRD, Calder Racing Development.

They said a rough price for fitting and painting and possibly a full color change ( I take it they mean for the car.. ir from red to yellow etc.) , would be £4000 + the price of the kit.

Now does this seem the norm ? A tad expensive is it not ?

A pic of a car they have with the kit is here >>

I have to admit it does look the dog <the spuds of lurrrrvve>s.

Now I could save for this and get it in around 6 months... but how could I do it without the g/f knowing the real price.. lol.

What do you think of the price/kit ??

I saw pics of the car in a Max Muppet mag .. looks like most of it is glued on over the top of the origoinal pannels and of a dodgy fit. It would get the looks, but I wonder what the quality is like? First speed hump and the whole thing would crack, flex and fall apart.

It's very Max Power and if you knew the actual cost of making a full kit, you'd laugh at prices around the 1600 mark. After speaking to people who work in the fiberglass trade I'd never pay those kind of prices, ever.

Also, where has the back wheel gone? It's the opposite of the Ferrari kit with the 9 inch spacer on the rears.

I don't know much about Calder, I'd not heard of them until I saw that car .. I think they imported it as is and are now asking a silly amount of money for it. Another mate imports cars as a hobby (few a year), and has given me the auction prices that cars sold for that turn up on other importers forecourts .. it looks to be a nice earner .. make a mint on the car, but only after you have copies of the kit and then sold those for a mint too.

The WideBody kit done properly (TRD Kit) is IMHO the best kit available for the MR2, that kit does not look anything like it should and looks like it's a cheap imitation of the real jobby....

I mabe wrong but have seen much better examples.

with bigger wheels, especially at the back, it may look half decent but i must admit i think it looks a bit nasty. :(

Should reply asking where the back wheels went!

Aparently the car is quick though, but then if you can get all the bits at trade cost and your staff are mechanics, and you can sell the car after :D

The CRD one looks like someone has gone nuts with a margarine tub and some glue. Didnt think it looked right.

I'm sorry but I'm not keen on the TRD one either.Reminds me of a Ginetta G32, in that the door doesen't look like it belongs anywhere near the rest of the kit.
