Having asked for all of your help on the decision as to whether I made a rash choice,I can now speak with some experience albiet short. After waiting several weeks for the DVLA to tranfer the number plates I finally got my hands on it and have driven it for some miles. My fears were unfounded, some journalists slating it ,they have to write something and do not get emotionally involved like owners do.

Some years ago I had the pleasure of meeting two very able drivers, they both were selling cars I was interested in,one I knew of personally,WIN PERCY and DAVID DA COSTA,they might not be familiar to some of you but both were British salon car champions, they showed me how smooth and quick a car can be driven without the CLARKSON TYRE SHREDDING MODE,I then sought to emulate their skill.

The point I am trying make is that driving quick is more about technique than outright top speed, yes a car must have some performance, what ever you own some one will always have a bigger more expensive model, but driven properly you can give a good account of yourself.

As for car spec TOYOTA did not just add go faster bits, development would have taken place I am sure the supecharger was chosen for the spread of torque,if you can find where it starts and ends just sit on it ,the revs on lift are a bonus,

YOU SEE I AM HAPPY WITH IT NOW,can`t wait till its run in!!!! MJ

We told you you'd like it

Dont listen to the motoring press they always seem to slate Toyota given the opportunity and everyone has their own opinion. I have driven the Golf GTI , new CTR, Focus ST all of which are very nice cars in there own way but I would'nt change my Compressor for any of them and the Corolla certainly doesn't deserve the bad press it gets when it is compared to these cars.

Hope you enjoy your compressor, I sure do B)

Have just returned from a very wet 200 mile session, its living up to my expectations,I have noticed you can execute some great gear changes 6 to 3 being interesting, great when run in,when accelerating the power just keep climbing, could do with a 12 speed gearbox and get airborne!!!!! ANYONE tried speed changes going down the box? MJ

Hi, I have just bought mine also, Saturday in fact. But i have lights on my dash already lol so not had the chance to test it properly.

I have been reading loads of posts about resetting the ecu if the car has not always been run on 98 ron fuel? This apparantly sets it back to the factory settings. I was a little upset when someone said that some compressors had been set to 95 ron fuel and toyota have sent new ecu maps out to dealers. How wouldyou find out if yours was like that?

Am going to ask the dealer to reset mine as it had 1000 miles on it when i bought it and not sure what they have put in ie 98 ron especially now its making a tappety noise on acceleration when i drove it home.

I used to sell toyotas from my local franchise last year and never heard of any problems with them, mind you i never sold a compressor so thats probably why lol

Hope you like yours? We were selling them for £18500 last July as pre reg's. I bought mine for £12,600, 6 months old and 1000 miles so they seemed to have depreciated really badly?

Congrats on your new toy

I have covered just over 18k miles in mine now and the novelty has not worn off yet!

My favorite gearchange is from 6th straight to 4th which puts the car straight into the 5k rpm-up lift band and the car pulls strongly, especially on motorways.

My car had some early problems which were put down to the dealer filling it with standard unleaded.

The ecu was reset and all was ok.

The thing is, it is due for it's next service soon and I have asked them to investigate a couple of strange quirks the car seems to have developed.

One is after you have driven normally (!) for a while then floor the accelerator, and the car hiccups before the power comes in.

The other is if you drive at level throttle (cruising) and you get the feeling which can only be described as somebody easing the handbrake on.

The dealer has had it all explained to him and knows I will not let it go until it is sorted.

I was one of the first to have a Compressor and early on the dealers didn't have a clue about them.

Hopefuly they will now have a bit more knowledge to sort it out

Definately seems like this is a wrong fuel grade problem! I think this should have been pointed out better from toyota head office to dealers. I never knew the compressors neaded 98ron at least when i was selling for them! We sold at least 2! Toyota should have highlighted more then this would never have been an issue for so many people!

I only ever use Shell V-Power so I think my latest problems are sensors or the ECU again ;)

Oh, forgot, the gearbox baulks sometimes during fast changes so that's on the list too

It is a great car! Its very under-rated!! I'm in a T180 now and i do miss the supercharged revving devil of an engine thats in there.

Are you going to run your car in at all or are you driving like normal (revving it like you should) from the word go?

Having been involved with aero engine building and my own engines,I prefer to bed them in and progressively, increasing the revs in stages then about 600 miles really extending the performance, yes using full revs momentarily at 1000 miles the engine should be used to its full potential. If you cane from new it will not last long, but will give rapid performance as the wear rate starts early, the choice is yours. At least you have experienced both cars.MJ

Sounds like a good plan esp. in a supercharged engine - i've been following a similar routine in my diesel T180. Been limiting myself to 3krpm gradual revs for around 400miles then recently i've taken it to around 3.5k and once just under 4k and i did this by probably pushing the accelerator too hard. I think i should have avoided that can't do much good bedding the pedal down after only 400ish miles. Anyway, since then i've decided to take it to 3.5k on occasions in 3rd and 4th and by 600miles i think i'll give 1st and 2nd more of a workout.

P.S. dont laugh at my revs! I know whats its like to rev a TS so hard it screams and in a way i miss it but i'm having fun.

Now i'm just hoping i haven't pushed my T180 too much too soon and its max torque and 180hp has already by reached at 3.5k rpm within 450miles on the clock

Any one read in AUTOCAR about the LOTUS 2 ELEVEN,it has TOYOTA Supercharged 1800 cc lump, there, I new the F1 ENGINEERS chose the supercharger for good reason!!! MJ
