Cruising Range At 0 While 10 Liters Petrol In Tank

Hi,

I have an Avensis T-Spirit 2.0 vvti. according to the manual the tank takes 60l.

During a recent voyage the cruising range went down to 0 and the low petrol light was on.

However when filling up I could only get 50l into the tank.

The toyota dealer tell me this is normal. Does anyone have similar experiences?

Cheers

This is the same on my 1.8 T3x. I fill up and fill it to the brim, the range is 352 miles. The computer shows a average of 35.7 around town average. That goes up to around 49-52 on a run. The computers readings are about 2-5 mpg out. That bit out the way know to the range function. I've played a little game called fuel light bingo, how far can i go before she runs out. Id coverd 430 miles and filled up the tank and still only put in 55 litres. Thats 78 miles more fuel than the range said i'd got. The car still had not run out petrol. My dads new facelifted avensis shows 458 mile range when he fills up. Judging by my little test thats about what you can expect from the 1.8 engine. Thing to remember is the trip computers are only to be used has a guide, but i have heard of a few giving all sorts of wired readings. The best guide is the fuel guage when it get near empty fill it up.

I just wonder what the point of having a cruising range is when it is almost 20% out..... I would understand some sort of safety net (e.g. cruising range shows 0 but still 5l in the tanks, but 10l is a bit excessive). To me the whole point of a cruising range is to see if I can do a particular journey without filling up (based on average consumption)...
