Hi,

This is my first post here so please be gentle with me!

I am wanting to purchase the Denison Ice Link Plus but with a damage free mounting bracket and was wondering if this will affect my warranty? I am going to get it fitted by incar-installer as it is only £39.99 and they will come out to you to install it.

Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Kind regards

Lisa

Thanks very much for getting back to me!

One more question if you dont mind - I have contacted Ipod Car Kit Direct to ask if the Denison Ice Link Plus will fit my stereo but they need to know what the pin settings are at the rear of the radio, they said it would most probably be a 1 row of 7 pins or 1 row of 5 pins (12 pins total)CD changer connector or empty CD changer socket at the rear. Does anyone know what it is or where I can find out without having to pull apart my dashboard cos I dont have a clue!

Thanks in advance

Lisa

Hello Again,

I took my car to Toyota today and asked them if they wouldnt mind removing the stereo so I could have a look at the connectors at the back! They were very kind to do it there and then for free!

The model number of my stereo is W58824

If anyone is interested to know there are 3 connectors:

the first has 2 rows of 4 pins

the second has 2 rows of 6 pins

and the third (this is the one that has the cd connected to it) has 2 rows of 10 pins

Here is a pic:

Also Toyota informed me that they now do an Ipod car kit: http://www.toyota-europe.com/own/accessories/ipod.aspx Its a bit pricey though at £280 including fitting!

Hope this is of some use to you all!

Hello Again,

Just another quick update! Ipod Car Kit Direct have got back to me and told me that the Denison Ice Link Plus will not fit my radio but the FM modulator will, the only problem is you cannot control the ipod via the radio or steering wheel controls.

I have decided to opt for the Toyota Ipod car kit and am having it fitted on Thursday so I will keep you update on how good or bad it is! Its £240.95 including VAT and fitting! Not too bad if its the only option I suppose!

Kind regards

Lisa

Isn't that like more than an ipod? Seems a bit steep to me when i would much rather just control my ipod from the ipod as it's easier anyway! I personally would of had a charging holder that plugs into the cigarette lighter so its nearish to you anyway, then just used an FM transmittor OR just bought a new stereo with Ipod controlling capabilities for less! Just my view!

Hi Woody27,

I have got an FM transmitter that used to work fine in my old Yaris but is absolutly hopeless in my new one for some reason! I also thought about a new radio but is there one that will fit where the new yaris radio is? When they removed the radio for me to look at the connections it was hugh and had the middle airvents attached as one unit?

It is a bit steep but I commute 300 miles a week so it will get a lot of use and is a bit safer than fiddling with the ipod itself!

Thanks for your ideas though, advice is always useful!

O right, for a start i didn't realise it was a new yaris! My mistake! But yeah i'm sure there will be an adapter available to put an aftermarket stereo in there. Otherwise yes i suppose it is safer using the radio controls BUT i find it very hard to navigate an ipods worth of songs without a large screen and proper navigation (just from experience with cars with inbuilt ipod controls!) Let us know how you get on though!

You'd think they would have put a iPod connection in the new Yaris like there is in the Aygo....

Still, let us know how you get on Lisa!

Yes thats my only real gripe with the Yaris - it severly lacks technology! Basic stereo, no bluetooth, no standard ipod car kit or aux port! It annoys me also that the display screen on the stereo is small and the writing is so large that it cant fit a song name on and it doesnt automatically scroll, you have to press the display button to get it to scroll across!

Ive had a look at the connects 2 kit too but that is also a 12 pin connector and the radio in my yaris has a 10 pin connector. It makes me think Toyota have done this on purpose so the only ipod car kit option is there own!

Ah well the Toyota Ipod car kit had better be good!

It's not just a problem with the yaris though ..... it's the whole Toyota range regarding technology.

It's strange though as it's not a cheap car although its image seems to be in the middle between a cheap car and an expensive car, but I have been in cheaper cars with more toys???

It's just a shame that you can't even get them as an extra

Well I'm not a happy bunny!

Had it fitted (in the glove box behind the steering wheel) and guess what!! Its doesn't work! I specifically rang Toyota to make sure that it would work with a 3rd generation Ipod and they said yes, it only doesnt work with a shuffle! Got home and had a play with it and it just didnt do anything when I plugged it in! So I read through the manual and in it it says compatible with 4th generation Ipods and above!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im going to give them a ring tomorrow but I dont really know where I stand with this! I expect they will just say they will remove it and give me my money back! But then how do I use my Ipod in my car. Really dont want to buy a new Ipod when there is nothing wrong with the one ive got!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :angry2:

Update:

Toyota are now saying that it has been tested with and is compatible with the 3rd generation Ipod! (why does it say 4th gen and up in the manual then!) The only thing is it wont charge it. I wasnt told this and it definately doesnt work with my 3rd gen Ipod! I asked my dealer if I could talk direct to the technical department and they said no only the dealer can talk to them!

So... I have now called customer service to complain and they have opened a case so we shall see what happens now!

How can Toyota release a new product that no one knows anything about! Its ridiculous!

I hope this gets sorted for you Lisa.... what a nightmare!

I do know of a lot of stuff (my Sat Nav included) that will not work with iPod Shuffles, which is stupid really - fundamentally they are all the same MP3 player

Dont let them beat you over this - they should have told you the Shuffle wouldnt be compatible before you got it installed!

Hello,

Just to let you know I have finally sorted this annoying mess out with Toyota! They have agreed that actually 3rd generation Ipods don't work with the Toyota Ipod car kit. So they have refunded me my money and allowed me to keep the kit!

Now all I need to do is treat myself to a brand new Ipod!

I must say I am very happy with the outcome and the speed that they have sorted it out! :D

I will let you all know how good the car kit is once I've got a new Ipod!
