Maf Sensor

Hello all,

My MIL has been coming on every now and again, 3 times in 3 weeks over 800 miles and resetting.

My fault code reader, which I got from Google Virtual Village for £32, informs me that it is a P0171 code. This appears to be a generic code meaning 'system too lean (bank 1)'. After looking at the very helpful posting of the simple descriptions and suggestions for this fault I am informed to clean my MAF sensor.

So my question is where is it?

I believe it is round the air filter somewhere. I have found something that may be it. As you look into the air filter there is a unit under/in the casing on the left with a multi plug attached. Is this it and how does it come out to be cleaned?

Thank-you

You unscrew the plug (2 screws)

Then pull it out and disconnect wires

Use pressurised air to fire at the maf sensor (small wire like object inside sensor)

Hope this helps!

...and make sure the sensor is dry before plugging it in and starting the car. The cold fro the compressed air will cause condensation to form on the sensor (thing ice cold beer bottle) which will bring up another error code which will cause the CEL to stay on.

Make sure no crap falls into the hole either. Could make a nasty mess...

Be very careful with the screws that hold the sensor in - they're like cheese and damage easily. Make sure you use the correct size of screwdriver - they need to be in properly to form an air-tight seal.

G'luck,

Alan

Which is why you don't really clean as such you just blow either compressed air onto it or use a dry cotton wool bud! Basically just don't use any type of product to be safe!

Does anyone have a picture of where it is on a Yaris - Is it the top left hand side of the air filter? I need to do mine, but want to know whether I am disconnecting the right thing!!

Thanks!

Ian
