Tempted By A Compressor

I am (very) tempted by a Corolla Compressor 56 plate <1000 miles. But:

- is it family-friendly (ease of access for rear seat passengers - 2 kiddies, 8 & 12 - and reasonable size boot)?

- is it reliable (I know Toyota has a good reputation, but is the Compressor a special case)?

- how much should I be paying (£20K list price, but the nearly-new prices I've seen are nowhere near that)?

- do I need to be wary of imports?

- any guesses on what a Compressor will be worth at 3 years/36,000 miles?

Many thanks in advance.

So you are a JANNER,most will not understand but, they come from the west country,I was in the FAA at Culdrose AND Yoevilton,I digress, I can understand your anguish I too felt the same way, should take kids in the back as it is derived from a std saloon as for prices look on eBay,dealers are expecting 14 - 15 k,I paid 15k with 20 miles on it,got good p/ex for RAV 4

check out second hand 3 year old T SPORTS on eBay,even CUPRAS/CLIOS/FOCUS drop like stones, remember with a build of 250 and time passes it will be regarded as very desirable with TOYOTAS reliability, and the others faltering by the wayside,I think if looked after and driven sensibly!! they will command good money, time will tell. I can comment on a few things here.. (Apologies in advance as I have had a beer!)

Access to rear is no problem, I have a 4 & 6 year old and they get in fine. (Although not for long)

Boot space? What did you have before? Not brilliant, but enough for me. Probably enough for a couple of suitcases?

Reliable? Well it is a toyota, but has anyonyone done any huge miles on a compressor? Probably not, but watch me...

Imports? not an issue, none that I am aware of at the moment.

Price? I paid 14K for a pre reg model, 60 (yes 60) miles DO NOT pay more, Arnold Clark has a few like this.

Future value, Anyone knows...

BUT remember 98 RON Only!!!! and around 20 > 25 MPG locally, 30MPG Mway

Let us know how you get on

Hi, Mine has a few problems but nothing bad (touch wood)

£i paid £12,900 last week for mine, black 56 plate, 1000miles from a toyota dealer. There are a couple more dealers selling for that price, one has 10 miles and is in silver £12989 i think. Let me know if you want the details. I would have gone for it but i wanted black. The dealer is in warrington, cheshire, they have 2 silver ones.

cheers paul

Thanks for all the help; it's a tricky decision because my current car (Skoda Fabia vRS) has been good so far. But the way I see it, its value is probably at a high at the moment (no more production, no new model untill 2008 at the earliest) so now would be a good time to part-ex it! And it has an expensive service coming up in the next couple of months. Hence "Tempted by a Compressor".

A couple more questions if I may. Is there anywhere on the internet I can find the original spec of the Compressor, and any optional extras? If not, perhaps an owner could give me the highlights - from adverts I've seen I'm guessing climate control, driver, passenger & side airbags, cloth seats. But were there options available such as bigger alloys (17" rather than 16"), leather seats, 6 CD changer, sunroof etc? For colours, I'm guessing metallic silver, metallic black and metallic grey only? Thanks.

Not 100% here, but were there any optional extras? Compressor has all the things you mentioned, but I would imagine that you are going to have a problem upgrading wheels, (even if it is an option). Dealer has to do something with the old ones. East when a factory order, not so easy when they may be left with a set that is going to sit around for a while. (eBay  ) By the way, when did you last see a new car with a sunroof  seems to be last years thing....

The Compressors had limited options as they were well spec'd to start with.

The 17" wheels with 215 Pirelli P-Zero Nero's were standard.

I think the few options were SatNav, multi-play CD, leather trim and..... um, I think that was about it!

This is the link to TTE who converted the car and you can download a copy of the original sales brochure as well.
