2015 BMW X1 seen testing - first pictures

Updated BMW X1 to get front-wheel drive and three-pot engine power

This test mule is our first look at the new BMW X1

The new BMW X1 compact SUV has been spotted testing for the first time ahead of a launch in 2015.

This new X1 is based on the same UKL1 platform as the new Mini and the production version of the BMW Concept Active Tourer.

Although this prototype is wearing the bodyshell of the five-seat

Concept Tourer, the bigger wheels and larger wheel wells show that it is

conducting the first road tests of the X1’s running gear.

The

UKL1 platform uses transversely mounted engines and is natively

front-wheel drive, with the option of a four-wheel drive system also

possible. Most X1 models are likely to be sold in front-drive form,

mainly because of the CO2 and fuel economy advantages.

Most X1s

will be powered by BMW’s all-new three-cylinder, 1.5-litre turbocharged

petrol and diesel engines, which, company engineers promise, will set

new standards for frugality. Higher-powered versions will be offered

with 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engines, which are also expected to appear

in the future Mini Cooper S.

When this X1 arrives in showrooms, the current X1 is expected to be discontinued, bringing to an end its five-year lifespan

Now that interests me. A big 3 cylinder engine should run on fresh air.

Nissan has released a teaser image of the 2014 Nissan Qashqai, which is due to be revealed in full on 7 November.

The manufacturer claims that the new car will “redefine the crossover sector and set new standards across the board”.

It is set to receive a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, improved dynamics and sharp, modern styling.

Previously, the disguised versions of the new model had been spotted undergoing testing in Europe.

Nissan is calling the 2014 Qashqai “the most significant car in its modern history”.

Prices for the new Qashqai are expected to start at less than £30,000.

Lexus to show turbocharged LF-NX concept in Tokyo

Toyota will show a new turbocharged version of its LF-NX concept car at the Tokyo motor show later this month.

The
concept was first seen at the Frankfurt motor show earlier this year.
The original design was built to gauge reaction to an avant-garde SUV
from Lexus to take on the Range Rover Evoque. The concept was powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine producing 156bhp, plus a small-capacity electric motor.

This new version features a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, although Lexus has yet to confirm power output.

In
terms of styling or interior design the refreshed LF-NX concept seems
unchanged from the original. That means the exterior is still a sounding
board for several hallmark Lexus features, including the large spindle
grille at the front and elements of Lexus's L-Finesse design language.

The
same cabin from the original also features, with a fingertip touchpad
reminiscent of the one used in high-end Audi models to control
infotainment systems.

“redefine the crossover sector and set new standards across the board”. Me thinks not !

“the most significant car in its modern history” You are having a laugh, right ?

I think AUTOCAR screwed up with starting price too -

Prices for the new Qashqai are expected to start at less than £30,000.

But now its -

Despite the significant increase in quality and equipment levels, prices

are set to start from only marginally above the £16,895 of today’s base

model. Plush range-topping versions are set to cost around £27,000.

Don't see the Honda being a big seller. The Ford isn't 'pretty' IMHO, huge front grille resembles Santa-Fe.

Well compared to ugly Mitsubishi's which seem to have vanished from here, at least the new Nissan Murano

has the decency to cover up just in case.

The 2014 spec Landcruiser, including some new colour options and touch and go 2. A proper alternative.

http://www.toyota.co.uk/new-cars/land-cruiser

I reckon that the most significant element in this facelift is the fact that all the models, including the base one, get the full range of dynamic drive kit.

In the past, the base model was a poverty special and you had to spend megabucks to get a decent spec inc'g things like DAC, remote cameras, etc.

I think they are expensive these days for what they are! For driving around UK roads I think the RAV is a better car for the money. If the price of an automatic LC was more similar to the price of a RAV I would consider one again but I am not wasting silly money on a car that I would only use for town journeys and holidays. I did buy a LC3 in 2004 but wasn't convinced by its handling and traded it for a RAV.
