Think you might be on to something there Dave, especially the way the headlight curves around the front corner.

Hope you don't mind me using one of your old holiday snaps for comparison.

Hyundai is looking to expand in Europe, and the new Veracruz seems like the perfect answer to enlarging its lineup. Hyundai's largest CUV, named the IX 55 overseas, will come equipped with a 2.2L turbo-diesel powerplant and sell for a hearty €45,000. Hyundai Europe is hoping to sell 5,000 units per year beginning exactly one year from now as part of a larger plan to increase annual sales in Europe from 350,000 to 400,000 units.

At 5,000 units per year, the IX 55 will hardly set Europe on fire, but it's nice to see that every once in a while we here in the States gets a vehicle before our European friends. We also get the better name apparently, as IX 55 is as forgettable as they come.

Mmm interesting......looks like the Lexus RX it was modelled on, to my eyes. Which isn't a bad thing

That's about £31.5K new, that's heffty.........probably drop £10K if not more during it's first year, ex-demo is the way to go with that one :thumbsup:

Prices for the VW Tiguan look good too.

I've said it before, but I think the 4.3 is a bit overpriced!!

Prices for RAV's off Toyota website:

XT3 VVTi £19,095

XT3 D4D £20,345

T180 £27,045

The mainstream models look there or there abouts. T180 is well over priced compared to the Tiguan Sport 2.0 TDI 170PS.

I saw one of these (Vauxhall Antara) the other day. Until you see one it's hard to get a feel for the scale of the thing but I can tell you it's quite big;

antara.jpg

Furthermore it was diesel engined (and the vectra diesel is quite good). It caught my attention because of those grilles on the side that are the same as the new ned f (I wonder who robbed who?) and realised it was the same as this;

112_0707_04z2008_saturn_vueleft_fro.jpg

(Saturn Vue) which I hired on holiday. Mine had a 2.4 petrol I think. It was OK but the seat squab had a lump at the front that cut off the supply of blood to the legs. Any further than about 20 miles and you had to lie face down on the pavement until the pins and needles stopped :mellow:

Well then my estimation of it has just gone up a couple of notches!

I have quite a high regard for Daewoo.

Of course the Daewoo one will be cheaper than the Vauxhall one....

I know what one I would have....Theoretically speaking... :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

It will be called a Chevrolet then ? Thought the Daewoo name was gone ?

Chatman - might be cheaper but you would need to check the spec to see if they did a diesel.

Dave - I'm not sure if the name still exists for other markets. Its a very new model and that is a Daewoo Badge.

Academic anyway. I might have a nosey but I'm most unlikely to change mine for some time.

However, just found this in wickpedia;

The Daewoo Winstorm (designated C100) is a mid-size crossover SUV developed by General Motors's design center in Incheon, South Korea and is based on the GM Theta platform. The S3X concept car, from which the Winstorm is derived, premiered at 2004 Paris Motor Show, with the final model shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2006.

The Winstorm is available in ASEAN markets, and in Europe, the Middle East and South America as the Chevrolet Captiva. In Australia, the Winstorm is marketed as the Holden Captiva. The Opel Antara, a derivative of the Daewoo Winstorm, will be available in North America for the 2008 model year, but badged as the second generation Saturn VUE.

Two engines are available for the Winstorm, a 150 hp (112 kW) straight-4 2.0-litre common rail turbodiesel unit developed with VM Motori and a 225 hp (168 kW) V6 3.2 L Alloytec sourced from Holden.

And my learned friend Dave, you are quite right about Chevvy;

Daewoo had the best showroom I have ever been in...Couple of years ago when wife wanted her own car :rolleyes: (fed up of kerbing mine) went looking around showrooms....It was like an early Ikea..all wood and tekk, water features..very nice looking, wife was impressed :P but back then they were just re-badged Vauxhalls and there first attempt at a SUV 4X4......so looked around had cappuccino and left...

EDIT:

Copied from Wikipedia:

Daewoo (Korean for "Great Universe") was a major South Korean chaebol (conglomerate). It was founded in March 22, 1967 as Daewoo Industrial and was dismantled by the Korean government in 1999. On May 30, 2006 the founder of Daewoo, Kim Woo-jung, was sentenced by a court in Seoul to a fine of approximately 21 trillion won ($22bn USD) :eek: :eek: and 8 1/2 years in prison on charges including fraud and embezzlement.

I suggest anybody thinking of buying a VW Tiguan picks up the December copy of What Car.

They have driven a German 2.0 TDi and it makes interesting reading.

A few quotes:

"Tiguan takes the safe route"

"It's the kind of car you're meant to be drawn to to precisely because it's more exciting than the saloon or hatchback you currently own, yet excitement is one thing that's conspicuously absent"

"It's styling is - how can we put this? - conservative"

"It's impossible to criticise the way the Tiguan drives, but its equally difficult to get over-enthusiastic"

"We don't mean to damn it with faint praise - it's better than that - but it's not the kind of car to engender instant enthusiasm"

"Unexciting but thoroughly competent - four stars"

The link below just gives the facts and highlights.

What Car.
