Mk1 Headlight Conversion

I'm wondering how they do that low-profile headlight mod..? I mean, what kind of mechanism there is that moves the headlights up'n'down and how to modify it to lift only a bit to make that mod possible?

That looks absolutely stunning compared to the normal mk1 headlights!

Since I have to change the headlights anyway for my soon-to-be-imported mk1 (from England to Finland), I thought that instead just changing the lights I might do the mod! :)

The other headlight mod I'm seriously thinking of is making 300zx headlight-lookalikes.. :)

300zx lights

Thanks for your help again!

I think they're actually low-rise headlight's m8... I think u can make your lights lift a little bit by fiddling with a few turning screws by the lights, or buying a gizmo that will allow u to set the lights on a 5%-100% dip

if you want them to look as good as that in the pictures though... get the low rise headlights

we've been talking about this before but i think the post has been deleted due to the data loss.

We said that the kit would probably be too expensive and even then we couldn't find anyone selling one, so we started to look into making our own.

I am also after a mod to controll how high the lights rise..... I should think it will be some kind of variable resistor maybe??

i saw it ages ago in a max power type mag. it was a small black box with a knob on it. they were saying it was to control airflow into the engine bay(take headlights out), obviously not relevant on an mr2. im pretty sure it wasnt expensive an im pretty sure it was good for any car with pop up lights. its definately out there.

I don't see how you can get an electrical mod to control how high your lights raise......

Speaking from experience cos I've got severly skinned knuckles after working on mine all afternoon today trying to get them both to pop up together, the previous owner had played with them a bit !!!

But they're all sorted now !!!

You can alter the height yourself but beware, they take ages to get right, and there isn't a lot of room to work on them, also bear in mind that the screws that hold then all together may be rusted away.....( like mine were.....had to drill them out and re-tap them !!)

All the mechanism is is a motor with a plate on it, which is set at an angle, there is then a bar attached to this which is attached to the headlight, when the lights are turned on the motor turns the plate and the bar pushed the light up, and in reverse to lower it.... to change the amount of raise you have to undo the nut on the motor and move the plate down and away from the light....does that make sense?

If you pop your lights up just remove the black cover from around the light and you can get access to the motors......

But to do it properly you want a proper low rise kit with new lights !

There is a control available thats wired in ,there was a post a while ago(probably lost in the problems). You turn a knob and the lights rise and fall. I presume that when you actually turn on the lights they pop open properly. You can get the lazy look anyway for free. Turn on the headlamps then switch them off again. As they start to go down rotate the switch one click. The lights will stop when you turn the switch, you may have to play with your timing to get the look you like best but it's free.
