Just curious about this.

At what rpm do you people usually change gear in city at low speed? (1 lane with cars in front)

Just let the 2nd anf 3rd gear up to something like 4000 rpm(cool engine sound) or just change it at 2000 or something lower?

in the first months I usually go just up to 2000/2500 latelly more like 3/4000, and outside city low speed always high revs and some lift

Yeah about 3k for me. Generally keep the revs about 2k so it doesn't labour the engine.

I am quite partial to going to 8.2k when I get the chance though! :D

Lol! Tell me about it!

Mind you, with this car changing gears is quite often in order to keep at 2-3k revs.

In my previous 1.6 Astra i would change gear much less than I do with the Tsport.

For low speed driving I find the gearing much better than my old 1.4 astra. It means I don't have to bother changing gears as much because at low speeds I can be anywhere from 2nd upto 4th and the car is fine. With my old astra there was a very small amount of grace before it either over revved because I was in too low a gear or tried to stall/refused to accellerate because I was in too high a gear.

In the CTS I'm a fan of high gear - low speed driving around the towns/cities and high speed-low gear driving in the country :D

I keep my revs as low as i feel the engine i not being laboured...

I am usually in these gears at these speeds when i am town driving:

10 - 20 mph

up to 3rd gear

20 - 30 mph

4th gear

30 - 40 mph

5th gear

40 mph and beyond

6th.

I consistently get around 34MPG with this driving... Plus the odd occasions of wanting to beat someone off the lights. Oh...and the odd lifts to see off the ubik takers.

i stay in the highest gear i can where the engine speed is above 1300RPM - this is town driving.

and where i live, i'm hardly ever in traffic jams so its 8.2k shifts!

around town i do get abit tired of the close ratios so i find that changing from 1st gear to 3rd feels like from changing from 1-2nd gear in any other and then to 5th from 3rd...
