Couple Of T Sport Q's

hey all  im new to the forum and thought id make a quick post to ask a few questions

ive been looking to change my car for a while now..

had a massive list of ideas but that list has been getting shorter & shorter. was after a vw polo gti but got put off at a REALLY heavy clutch and the gearboxes commonly going

the yaris is currently at the top of my list and im definatly thinking of getting one. (havnt managed to see one to test drive yet :()

so..

1-are there any common faults with the tsports (other than rattles?) ?

2- how many Speakers come standard, just fronts / front and back / tweeters etc?

3- is it as quick as the 0-60 times state as ive read a review which said the car didnt sound all that amazing or feel that powerfull..?

my first car was jap and my current golf really hasnt overly impressed me so im looking to go back to jap!

sorry if that doesnt make much sense but thanks in advance for any feedback :D cheers!

(few pics of my first car, might not be to anyones taste but nevermind :P)

First off welcome to the club mate!

A1: No common faults.

A2: 4 Speakers come as standard, 1 in each door and 2 on the dash, 1 at either side.

A3: It's probably about right, you might even do it quicker.

cheers for the reply bud, any other feedback anyone!?

i test drove a 1.3 t spirit the other day just to see how the positioning of everything was and how they felt to drive... wasnt 100% but things always take getting used to in a new car (specially the clocks in the middle of the dash)

the bloke in the dealers tho thinks that theres just ''a bit more grunt'' off the line from the t sport and that theyre about the same top end... true? untrue? what do you think

as i was a bit dissapointed at that reply hoping hed say ''god yeah theyre a hell of a lot quicker'' hah :(

any replys appreciated.

Cheers

Having never driven a 1.3 I can't really compare but listening to what others on here have said the T-Sport is the way to go. It's also got the alloys and all that jazz.

1. Bulletproof

2. 2 in the door, 2 in the dash but many people add others. Lots of advice on here.

3. 0 to 60 in 8.something

A T Sport is a totally different drive to a T Spirit. It’s lower, firmer and quicker. You would think they were different cars altogether.

You must have a go in a T Sport and your mind will be made up straight away

theres a problem with the rear shockers leaking through out the yaris range and also with driveshafts clicking when cornering but the t-sport has stronger driveshafts so that shouldnt apply also with waterleaks via bulkhead and rear lights but these are easy fixs i had a yaris t-sport but iv jst upgraded to the corolla compressor

First I've heard about rear shocks waterleaks and rear lights and I've been here years!

He did say common faults, not the odd one here and there

Any car will get the odd fault, but the Yaris is consistently good in all user surveys.

I am sooooo used to that now, it's horrible driving a car with normal clocks! Good luck with your search!

I have driven the wifes yaris 1.3 and have taken my new T-sport for a quick test drive and I will say it certainly seemed a lot quicker off the mark and a lot firmer on the road..

0-60 is 8.8 seconds when you consider that a celica GT is 10 seconds that aint really that bad, top speed is 118. I also read a review in Parkers that stated the Yaris T-sport had equivalent oomph to the old golf GTi when it first came out..and if I remember rightly Jeremy Clarkson did a wee test on all the Golfs from that one to todays model and I thik the very first standard GTi ripped the lot of them apart from the modern day one.....ok sorry am rambling now...anyway needless to say I think I would go for the Yaris if I weere you..I looked at others also and nothing really came close to impressing for allround value, reliability and fun .

ramble over :D

My son is a Toyota Tech & has just travelled 120 miles to purchase a Yaris T-Sport.

On asking him why he wanted one, his reply was " Because we hardly see them in our dealership other than for General servicing". They are obviously very reliable if a Toyota Tech owns one.

Also, the TS has sports seats, which may not sound much, but makes alot of difference compared to my Mum's 1.0L, makes the car feel alot more expensive and classy.

thanks for all the feedback everyone!

(might get slated for saying this :P)

test drove a c2 vts on the weekend and was suprised to see that the dash looked of better quality.

shame when youd expect a toyota to be top notch, not meant attaaalll to offend by the way :P just the finish of the yaris seems a bit tooo,. well er plasticy?!

how do you all find the handling also by the way, the steering on the 1.3 seemed slightly odd in a way . the wheels stayed where you put them, rather than the usual of them slowly re-centering..

thanks alot

The C2 is a very nice looking car; they always turn my head when I see one.

The problem is that they are French and consequently you may have all the problems associated with French cars. One of the main gripes about the Yaris (according to magazine reviews) is the state of the plastic interiors.

My answer to that is that it’s only cosmetic.

You will enjoy looking and admiring and touching the interior of a C2... while you are waiting on the hard shoulder for the breakdown recovery to tow you off the motorway! As a Yaris (or T Sport) is as reliable as they come, you won't have the time to notice the interior plastic as you will be too busy driving the thing with a big smile on your face

Have a go in a T Sport and report back to us

All phase 2 cars have electric power steering apart from the T-Sport. The steering in the T-Sport is about 100 times better!

All the answers seem to have been dealt with now so what Golf have you got & how come it hasn't really impressed?

Good luck with the search anyway, took me almost a year to decide what I wanted to replace my Yaris with (mainly because although I knew I wanted a change, the Yaris was so good to me that I was never under any pressure to get a move on with it). TVOR makes a good point about the interior, it is only a cosmetic thing & if you let that let you turn down a Yaris to get a French car, I can only imagine you regretting it.

1 thing that you may not have noticed in the Yaris is all of the little places to put stuff, it's absolutely full of them, I had loads of stuff within arms reach & even now, over 6 months after I got my Golf I still miss that little feature all the time.

Whilst I'm sure that a lot of Yaris's are reliable its unfair to say that they are all totally reliable whilst generalising that all French cars are unreliable. For example, my t-sport has been back to the dealers for repair work more times than a friends C2 VTS. Yes, generally speaking, Japanese cars are more reliable than French cars but thats not to say that you would have loads of problems with a French car and no problems at all with a Japanese one. Based on my Yaris ownership so far, I certainly wouldn't recommend one. If you prefer the C2 (it is faster after all) then don't discount it solely because it's French.

You pays your money and you takes your choice. Good luck with whatever you choose.

  • 2 weeks later...

It's always hard to find a specific car, I was looking for ages and ended up driving to blackburn and back twice to get it... Got there in the end though.

My first car was a Renault Clio mk1 and i did some performance mods to it (full exhaust,

filter, cams, suspension, williams seats so on.) and it was great while it ran properly but as soon as i got in the t-sport it just outclassed it in everyway the drive was so much more rersponsive and the feedback is great, nippy aswell for a standard car. I would never EVER have a car that wasnt japanese again. There just so good at what they do. My oppinion. hope it helps
