Wing Mirror Whistle

Hello all

I hear that the yaris suffers from wing mirror whistle? I have an auris t180 with the same prob at anything over 65mph. Is there an easy fix for this i can do myself? - I found a post of someone suggesting foam but where do i put it? Not sure where the whistle comes from on wing mirror, when i collapse it, the noise stops.

Cheers

That's an interesting one to know...

The foam goes in the recess that's visible when the mirror is folded I believe. For the Yaris your dealer should know what to do - have you mentioned it to them?

Here's the file you need - Clicky! - but its €3 (admittedly for as many documents as you want/need in an hour). I would go and moan to your dealer. Toyota know about it and have published the solution so there's no reason for them to even bat an eyelid.

I have very recently found an alternative solution - a set of wind deflectors off e-bay. No whistle and near draught-free cooling in a non-airconditioned Yaris...

Good luck!

A

Thanks v.much for this :)

I'll give em a ring tomorrow and hopefully they can fix under warranty, bet they dont know about it yet.

Interesting to know toyota let his design difference carry into the new auris. However to be fair to them i took the demo t180 car on the motorway up to 70  ... and didnt notice it at all then.

thanks

After reading your topic it prompted me to get something done about my whistling wing mirror. Used to annoy me at first but then i got quite attatched to it. However, with my warranty running out i thought id get it sorted.

As soon as i called Toyota and said whistling mirror she said yep and booked the car in the next few seconds. Its booked for this saturday so il let u know how it goes. Gd luck with yours, im sure it will be fine. D x x x

Yep - same outcome, i spoke to service manager and they will be placing foam in the gaps and behind the mirror, i just hope the foam doesn't set on fire when my heated wing mirrors fire into action

Should only take 10mins

S**t!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to my stupid local toyota beadles to get my wing mirror replaced, at least i thought i did, only to have the incompetent service man tell me that he had just road tested my car up to 60mph and didnt hear anything  and his colleague didnt either.

He asked me when it happens and i said when the window is down and the car goes over 30mph. He replied "Oh i never put the window down" :censor: At which point we went for another road test and he clearly heard it!!!

Needless to say i went off on one. I couldnt believe someone could be so stupid as to not roll the window down if the problem said "wing mirror whistle" to check everything. He clearly thought i was lying and had just booked my car in on a sat mornin for a laugh.

Now im waiting for a call from them and they said they've ordered two new wing mirrors to put on car. I thought it was going to be done then and there, not have to go through a lie detector test. When i said bout other yaris's havin problem he said yes they had come in but he could hear them with the window closed and some other spiel to get out of it but i was havin none of it. Idiot. Anyway, still got the whistling noise so hopefully will get it sorted soon.

The beadles i went to was in Gillingham, Kent. BEWARE of them, the times i've been there they have never sorted the problem and are more focused to make you look stupid than find a solution. Im only going there cos its free. Anyone else had same problems with them?

I doubt very much that they will replace the mirrors.

There is a Toyota Technical Bulletin which instructs the dealer to put a draught excluder material in the gap where the mirrors pivot/fold.

That is all you need to stop the whistle....................30 minute max job.

I expect that the dealer will have to order the kit in.............as most dealers do not stock anything except basic service parts these days :(

The silly service man said it will only take half an hour and now they have rang me saying they will replace both mirrors and it will take 2 hours :!Removed!: Why are they doing this to me?

I wanted to ring them and say cant u just put foam or whatever in but couldnt get through. Do u reckon i should as i dont really want my car going there as i really dont trust them.

Worse comes to worse ill say just put a new wing mirror in driver side and leave the other as i dont believe it to whistle. Ill call them 2mrw to say about filler etc but im quite sure i dont wanna leave my car there for 2 hours. I can just imagine it to come back with more problems.

I hate Toyota dealerships, its the price u pay that u get a nice car but it comes with s**t service. Typical.
