Just Got Back From Jts!

Hey all!

Just got back from the japanese tuning show held at silverstone, I can honestly recommend it to anyone. There was a great turn out of people there, and loadsa cars too. I even come across the TOC logo with a few CTS's round it showing up all the civic type R's :toast: (The CTS had more people round it than the CTR  )

As far as other Toyotas there were lots of supras and MR2's and some Yaris SR and T Sports turned up all tuned so much it made you dribble!

lots of girls (however id just like to say that girls are not just objects to look at, they too have feelings )

Did anyone from here go? because they had 2 Rolla TS's on the track during public track time? God they sound good lol! However hats off to the European Drifters, it must take so serious nerve to do what they do

All in all a great day out and only for £15 entry.

Cheers

MarK :yahoo:

Why didn't you come on the stand?

We could've had 2 T Sports side by side then!!

Brilliant day, can't wait for next years!!

Was that your CTS on the TOC stand??

I did look round the stand and did wonder if i could put my T Sport down there. Could i of, or did you have to have a special pass?

It certainly was!

You needed a club car pass to get onto the stand.

Did you not see the thread about JTS on here?

I didn't to be honest. I have been working alot recently, so didnt see the thread, so to get away for a day to see some cars was a treat lol. I looked round your CTS! Nice car! Yours is 6 months younger than mine, is yours stock? Or have you got any mods?

I was thinkning of getting a K and N Typhoon induction kit put on mine, do they make lots of diffrence do you know?

MarK

P.S: Will definatly get on the stand if we are down there next year :D

Completely stock apart from the TTE exhaust.

I looked at the K&N kits myself, they seem to boast some good power gains.

Other folk on here who've fitted them say that the CTS seems to pull much better through the revs and it gives the car a nice growl!!

Plus they've noticed a small, (very small!) increase in mpg, around 1!!

Just don't know whether to fit one or not as the CTS is still under warranty!!

Good point, because you don't want to fit one and then have the warrenty become void (just guessing, that probably wouldn't happen :) )

Some people i have spoken to says that it makes the engine work harder, possibly shortening the life of it. But i don't know weather this is the case and toyota engines are bullet proof anyway.

I saw you had the TTE exhaust, was very impressed mate. Bet that set you back a bit :) looks good, and i bet sounds great!! Do you get them from Mr T? Or did you fit it yourself?

Does add a nice growl when you're driving!

Went out in my mates CTS and i couldn't believe how quite his sounds in comparison!

As for the exhaust.... came with the car!! So no idea about cost or fitting!!

£120 is really good! Have you got an induction kit fitted? If so are you happy with the results? One of my firends had an induction kit on a fiesta zetec-s a few years back. I thought the results were really good, but the CTS is in a completely diffrent league to a little zetec-s lol :D

How is the insurance going through mate?

Hey Norfolk and Chance you found a nice buy there then with a £250 exhaust already fitted?!

Not got an induction fitted and not sure whether I'll bother or not as it's already a loud car to drive and not sure if the extra induction noise would do my head in or not. The exhaust has been great though as it's no louder than the stock (imo) but it has a much deeper and richer noise to it which is fantastic.

As for the insurance stuff, I haven't heard anything in the last 2 days but hopefully the garage have sent off their costs to the insurance company by now. It's very annoting because I'm so busy at work that I just don't have the time to chase everyone for updates.

Well they say no news is good news mate :) i got my fingers crossed for you.

If you are with a big insurance company then they usually have these things sorted pretty quickly. I was looking to put a short shifter on, but i don't know the first thing about fitting the things lol. I can see your point about the induction noise becoming annoying, and lets face it, the CTS is pretty dam quick even without one!! :P

How do you find your short shifter? Worth the money spent?

Cheers

Yeah I love the new shifter. It's a lot more precise (I guess the changes feel more solid) and obviously the throw is noticeably shorter too. It cost me about £120 delivered from Japan (www.nengun.com) and imo was worth the money. I also have instructions from a Toyota Tech on resolving the notchy gear changes but obviously don't have a rolla to try it out on atm lol.

Fitting the shifter is a piece of cake. There are instructions that come with the TRD model and although they are in "Engrish", the pictures explain everything perfectly well. From memory it basically boiled down to taking 4 bolts out, then 2 clips, then another 4 bolts. Then you swap the unit and put it all back and that's the job done. Shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes

Cool!! So it is everyone that suffers with the sometimes knocthy gear changes. I thought i had a problem with mine so asked Mr T to check it out and they said that they checked it and all was absolutly fine. A family friend is a mechanic so i took it to him to have a looksee, for a second opinion and he said exactly the same thing. The CTS has that one design flaw apparently, but i cant say that i notice it too much. Too busy having fun in it :D:D

Do you find that the brake pads wear down faster than you can say "They need changing again??" Mind you reading the mods on yours, you seem to have the stopping side of things covered lol ;)

Well I did struggle stopping with only 3 wheels, but with the black diamonds on, the braking was excellent. The discs and pads do wear down very fast, both the front and rear discs were seriously "grooved" from where the pads were making contact, and where they weren't grooved they were falling apart with rust. I still need to change the rear discs as I'm not happy driving around with discs in the state they are. At least the rears aren't as important as the fronts though.

The front offside pads were actually almost worn flat and had large cracks running all the way through them to the back plate - which was very worrying when I saw the state of them. I', impressed the car ever managed to actually stop before the new discs/pads.

Certainly did! It was between two but the other had some really dodgy "Lexus" lights on, it looked awful!

Having said that i wouldn't mind a CTS with leather trim either!

MiniMarc, sorry to read about your car mate, but at least you're in one piece and able to tell the tale!!

Yeah the leather trim does look quite nice, only problem is in the weather we have been having recently it gets unbelievably hot on the seats lol:D knightmare when wearing shorts, get out of the car and leave half your calfs behind :P

To be honest i think you made the right decision because the lexus lights, some would say they are a bit "chavvy" although i haven't actually seen them on the CTS so i can't say too much about them.

I had my pads changed 3000 miles ago so i'll probably be checking up on them soon i think...car still stops pretty good though :D

Your pads should last a lot longer than 3,000 miles mate. I'm pretty sure mine were never changed and the car is on 58,000 miles now. Admittedlt there was very little left in terms of the pads but they still stopped the car. I think mine should have ideally been done at 40k ish.

When i had the Yaris i managed to make some grooved discs myself!

All you need to do is let your pads wear out and carry on braking as normal!

(That'll teach me for having my music on too loud!!)

Nice grooved discs at no cost!

Wonder if Mr T noticed when he took it as part ex?!
