Does anyone know?

sorry I mean when you leave the car unlocked and then it locks by itself..

is there also a alarm fitted as standard?

My dads Avensis did. And they guy who sold it to me said it did too.

I left it for a while and it didnt lock.

Can you switch it on?

Cheers!!

Yes the CTS does have this feature. Mine used to do it, but I had it in at the mechanics and when I got it back, it had stopped locking itself. This is extremely useful to have disabled when you want to wash the car, but I'd prefer to have it enabled all the time.

Think I read somewhere it locks after 20min of inactivity, if you unlock the car but don't open any doors its only about 30sec before it relocks, I have a facelift T Sport and mine definatly has an alarm and apparantly at least one motion sensor...

My old celica (2001) did this "auto lock" in 120sec (2mins) also my Compressor does the same in 2mins.

Nice feature :)

My 2002 CTS will autolock but only after I have unlocked the doors myself but then not actually opened a door. If it autolocks if I forget to lock the doors at all I am not sure. Alarms are fitted as standard on all CTS 2001 onwards complete with internal motion sensors, current sensors and shock sensors.

The 2 buttons on your car key are to lock and unlock the car. If you press the lock button once, that will lock the car and immobilise the engine, press it again and it will set the alarm (If my memory is correct anyway). Then to test the theory try giving the car a good rock from side to side.

Thanks, ill give the car a rocking tonight!! Lol.

And I guess to disarm the alarm...push the unlock button?

I sound like a proper newbie!

Pressing the unlock button, does everything at once, so it unlocks the door, disables the immobiliser and turns off the alarm.

Can anyone else confirm this please? i.e. that a single press will lock the doors etc. but WONT arm the alarm. The alarm on mine is constantly going off and it's annoying me as well as the chav neighbours, and I'm not bothered about having the siren go off, if the car were torched or stolen I'd probably smile more and the missus would be happier with me too...

I'm sorry that my whole toyota experience hasn't been better.

Yeah the 2nd press sets the deadlocks and alarm.

It might be the under-bonnet sensor triggering it. There's an old post that says about putting a 2mm or so disc on the sensor which stops it triggering when it shouldn't.

Do you have a siren? Mine just beeps the horn when the alarm goes off.

It has the horn and a high pitched undulating siren too. I left it with one press of the fob and it went off again so that unfortunately didn't work. I'm in the middle of Derby, working a contract here and I've just had a run in with a taxi driver who says he cant park out front of his house cause I'm there. When you point out the car situation to these people why don't they get it? Mine is taxed, tested and insured and not in front of his dropped kerb.

I'll have a look for that post about the bonnet sensor, it was supposed to have been looked at last summer on this car.

Thanks.

Maybe I got it the wrong way around. The first press might lock and alarm the car, and the second will immobilise it.

The way I understood was that the first click locks the door, arms the alarm and imobilises it.

The second click operates the deadlocks.

Mine does not auto lock unless I unlock with the remote and don't open a door.

If I drive into my garage, get out and don't lock the car then it stays unlocked all night

  • 1 month later...

If anyone wants to play around with the auto locking and unlocking have a look here, search for Setting Guides and look at the VSS1 Setting Guide English.

There's instructions for turning Automatic Doors Lock on and off. I presume it's to lock the doors when the car is left rather than when it's driving.

I saw this post a little while back, my alarms been going off alot recently (only in the sunlight mind)...

I shoved one of those rings from a stack of blank cds onto what i presume is the bonnet sensor...

Time will tell lol.

I usually just press the lock button once and everything activities. If you then unlock the car and after 2 minutes of inactivity the car locks and re-arms the alarm. There's a section in the owners manual relays this information.

Due to this the Alarm is Thatcham Catergory 1 isn't it?

My CTS is the same as Chrisio, one click locks, immobilises (I assume) and arms the alarm, then the second click activates the dealocks. The auto lock only works if I unlock the car, but don't open the doors for about 30 seconds.
