Yaris Service

HI All,

My Yaris is coming up to 30,000 miles so is need for a service and i wanted everyones help.

On my last service i chose a garage, paid £100 and drove away happy until my dad told me some horror stories about servicing cars. Apparently some garages just top up the windscreen washer, do some other light touch ups and then give the car back!

Is there a way that u can see things they have taken out and replaced in the car, like filters and whatever else they do. My dad was going to mark things that he knew should have been replaced but just wanted to know how everyone else goes about servicing their Yaris's.

Any tips and advice would be greatly welcome.

Cheers, Danny x x

Buy the necessary parts and change it yourself would gurantee you things are done properly....

You will learn while doing it, and it's the cheapest option too!

But if its a newish car, what about the the service history that many potential buyers want to see?

keep dated receipts for everything you have bought.. put it all togeather and sign it off in your service book with your initials.... some people like a full Mr.T service, some as long as they are confident everything has been done and the car runs smooth they couldnt care less.... shows that a car as been well looked after even if the money hasnt been there imo.

and i always have a peek at the oil and air filtter ect (within reason) when buying a new car anyway, so dont be afraid of showing potential buyers when you come to sell it. you can also get away with uprated parts too which alot of people will like for example blitz or trd panel filter, uprated brake pads like ebc green stuff ect.

So in all to the wrong person it will matter.... but then again you dont wanna be selling you lovely pride and joy yaris to some1 like that any way now do ya :P

Along the same lines of enquiry, does anyone know what a 30000 mile Yaris service should include, other than oil / air filters and an oil change? I'm about to take delivery of a 30000 mile Yaris (1 litre), and it was last serviced at 15K. Bit of a gap, obviously, but the engine seems fine and the oil was pretty clean, so I wasn't too worried.

Also, I normally service my cars myself, but I'd like this one to hold it's value so I think an 'official' service history is probably worth the expense in this case. Does anyone have any idea how much it is likely to cost?

Finally, what should a healthy Yaris engine sound like? I'm used to Mini and MGB engines, so I can't quite get over how quiet the Toyota lump is. At tickover, if you lean in close, it sounds a bit like a sewing machine - a sort of chuff/tick rhythm. Presumably if the timing chain becomes slack, this manifests itself with some obvious clatter?

All information gratefully received!
