A Few Problems With My Tsport

hi guys and gals the problems i hav with my car are:

1: The gear box area is rattling wen im in gear and not on the accelerator, so basically coasting in gear, i think its coasting

2: Crunching sound wen im going off a drive way/ low curb. Def not the front bumper scraping. Im sure its coming from front right wheel area and even left sometimes. Maybe worn out dampers? :!Removed!:

3: Moving at low speed on 2nd gear or even 3rd and lifting up clutch and on accelerator. Sounds like clutch is slipping or something, but not sure. At 1st i thought i wasnt use to the clutch so it seemed like i was about to stall, but it FAR to LOUD and i dnt know if its the clutch thats slipping or wot.

so please can anybody help. Im gonna call up Mr T today and see wot he says bout it

Coasting is when you're in neutral. I think you mean engine braking/over-run. If you search the forum you'll find most people's seem to do this. A replacement clutch might cure it but some of the old posts say it doesn't and it's just a characteristic of the car!

Is it only when you first move off? Or all the time? If it's when you first move off after starting up, just when bringing the clutch up, it's the VSC calibrating or something like that. Or is it more of a suspension-related thing do you think?

No idea really, possibly clutch slip. If you read old posts you'll find clutches are a weak point, you can easily make it smell/slip if you put too much gas on when moving off!

Ive had my T Sport 2002 for 2 weeks now and im slowly getting used to the "characteristic" noises of the car.

Im not sure about the 1, 3 problems but for the 2 one...the crunching noise.

Ive read on all the posts....ive been on the forum reading for ages! and it seems everyone has that noise.

my car makes and and i was crapping my pants because I didnt know what it is. now i expect the noise to occur when starting the engine and moving off a yard or two..

hope this helps a little..

Yep, I gave up worrying a week after realising that these are the wonderful noises that the CTS makes..

Not too pleased tho, I thought I was buying a car with a reputation for quality and build...(at least better than my previous car - Vauxhall.)

But yeh, it would be best to get it checkd by Mr T, as long they dont try to pull a fast one on ya!

I've also noticed a strange noise in my cts sometime when I cold start it.

It seems like a gear crunch but a little different, maybe its from the startup engine?

only does when the car is stopped in a cold area after 5 or 6 hours.

when i put some wd40 in some places of the engine it makes less times this noise.

anyone know what this is or ever had this strange noise at cold start up?

  • 2 weeks later...
All the sounds are mentioned in your user manual..read it

Maybe it's the TC/VSC test I don't really know, it's a crank noise louder than engine hard to describe, that only lasts one second right at the engine start.

Never heard it in another car, and only does sometimes after been stopped for longer periods...

I have that crunching sound when drive away too. Acorrding from the Mr T, the sound is from the ABS system. The ABS system alway check itself everytime you start the engine. The when you hear that sound means the ABS is OK, so it is perfectly normal.

That is basically what they told me anyway.

After 4 days of waiting for MrT to fix my gear box, bcos they were waiting for the part. i finally recieved a fone call today saying i cud collect it. i hav got my car now. BUT i cant go into 6th gear now and the grinding sounds is still their but not as loud. Also i took my own oil and oil filter and told them i left it in the boot so they cud change it for me. they said it wud cost me £40. But bcos it took so long for me to recieve my car they said they did the oil change and filter for free. I open up my boot wen i got home and Guess wot i F***ing see in the. a FULL bottle of oil and a brand new oil filter.

Tell me wot the F**K hav they actually done to my car. it takes me 45mins to drive bak home from the Colchester dealer in Essex and bcos i cudnt go into 6th gear i was pretty much watching my petrol drop, i used up 1/2 a 1/4 tank.

now i need to wait till Monday, bcos wen i collected the car they were bout to close :censor: IM SOOOO P!SSED OFF!!!!!!!!!!!

Well if theirs n e one who goes to the Dealer in Colchester, ive already warned u

mine does it in reverse...I naturally expect the noise to occur now. I get worried if I dont..
