Standard Exhaust

has anyone ever bought a standard exhaust for their t sport? my g/f needs the mid section and probably the back box replacing and everyone i've phoned has said it's dealer only.

just been quoted £800 from 2 dealers as they say the mid section includes the cat.

plesae don't suggest she replaces it with a noisy stainless steel system cos she doesn't want one.

If on the other hand you have replaced your standard system with a noisy stainless one and have your old one for sale..

it's a 2001 P1

cheers

You can go to somewhere like powerflow or any custom exhaust place and they can make you a stainless steel exhaust no louder than the standard one! The advantage is that it will be much cheaper (under half that price) and also should last forever (stainless steel). Has the cat itself actually gone? if not then it will deffo be under half £800 as they will just cut off from the cat back and reweld the new pipes from there.

Use yer noggin...

Get on the internet or pick up a Yellow pages and look for parts suppliers, spend 5mins ringing round and ask if they've got a Yaris mid-section and backbox. I asked not too long ago for a mid-section for my SR (same as T-Sport) and was quoted £40. Takes 30mins to fit yourself.

first thing i did mate! i'm not retarded.

the t sport midsection is all one part from the backbox to the manifold and includes the catalytic convertor and is a dealer only part, so it's not the same as the sr and cost £560.

I don't know really, I guess if you want proper Toyota parts you have to pay more, or try a breakers yard, there are some Toyota breakers about on the internet, finding a T-Sport may be tricky though. I think it would be worth getting proper one even if it does cost more though, as one from the likes of Powerflow may increase the insurance, and would probably mean the car would sell for less.

theres no choice but genuine parts it seems.

bad design on Toyotas part if you ask me.

all they needed to do was put a join between the cat and middle box, but oh no, lets make it all one bit.

is the SR exhaust in 3 bits? back , middle and cat? is it the same bore as the t sport?

Powerflow would not change resell value of car as it is just replacing the centre section with the similar parts but with stainless instead of mild steel :s I would definately do this as is cheaper and will not change the sound as powerflow do make standard style systems aswell! I know as my mates dads MG had a full exhaust put on by them but kept his standard backbox (as you would) and it was no louder or with any performance increase as same diameters, fixed, cheaper and stainless!!! Don't understand why you wouldn't do this?

if you include the manifold it's 3 pieces, but as i said before, the section from the join with the backbox to the join with the manifold is all on piece made up of the cat and a silencer and obviously the pipework between.

Thats why that part is £560 as it includes the cat. If it didn't it wouldn't be an issue.

I just think it's a ******* design where you have to replace the cat for a tiny hole at the other end of a piece of pipework or have a replacement made up in stainless.

woody, any idea what a cat back powerflow would cost roughly?

cheers

Well looking at people on here who have a cat back kit for the performance ones WITH a sports backbox they're paying less than £300! Yaris SR kid paid £260 for his. I can only imagine it would be cheaper for just standard diameter piping without any sport backbox and just a normal silencer (as there is one in the mid section as standard)

my local powerflow place is a rip off. £360 + VAT !

went for a 3" inward rolled tailpipe, I like the standard look.

and the wrong part anyway. it was the middle section that was rotten.

new one sounds sweet, a muted burble, and looks very nice without being ott.
