Oxygen Sensor Lon 3s-ge

PLease help, my 1995 carina e GTi is failing it's emmissions (too much CO) and I need to check the oxygen (LAMDBA) sensor. The only problem is, I can't find it! It's usually on the exhaust downpipe or manifold, but there's nothing there and I can't see anywhere where it might have been if it was removed.

can anyone tell the the location of the oxygen sensor on a 3SGE?

Don't know for sure, but it might be hidden above the flexible joint near the connection to the center exhaust section??

hi there

i also had this problem with emissions with my 96 celica but got some advise on it i was told to put two bottles of stp petrol treatment (RED BOTTLE) in a half tank of petrol the night before the test worked a treat here is the result

before the stp the level was CO 2.03vol% HC 88PPM

adding the stp it came down to CO 0.08vol% HC 15PPM

now that was some result and of course i passed the mot test. and the guy at the mot center said i needed a new converter which would have cost me 900 euros instead it only cost me 6 euro for the stp. one more tip always have the engine well warmed before the test there is less emissions from a warmed engine

ok thanks guys I will try the STP thing (although I used 1/2 bottle before I failed and got 3% CO). Maybe it will be ok if I put 2 1/2 bottles in 1/2 tank. Was going to try the methanol but think STP sounds the safer option.

I had a quick look along the exhaust underside of my car but could't really spot anything like an oxygen sensor, maybe it really is tucked away above the exhaust, I might need to raise the car to see it.

going for 3rd try on MOT this week will let you know the outcome. fingers crossed!

sorry forgot to add i also let the petrol in the tank go down as low as i could and then filled a half tank of Shell pura petrol which also keeps emissions down. then added the two bottles of stp petrol treatment just for the the test.

Hi, I'm a bit confused when you say let the petrol go down as slow as I could. At what point did you do this?

Hopefully I will use Shell pura, is this 98 RON? If so don't I need to reset the ECU for this?

my plan at the moment (tank is almost empty):-

(1) fill 1/2 tank (Shell pura?)

(2) 2 1/2 bottles of STP

(3) run car till 1/4 tank left

then on test day, run my car for 15mins and then go for MOT.

does this sound ok?

i let the petrol go down till the red light came on then i put in half a tank of Shell of pura i then added two bottles of stp the night before the mot test to give it a chance to run through the system pura is a 95 ron my car is a 96 celica 3s-ge jap import and i had no problem using 95 ron pura for the test. i got this advise straight from my toyota dealer and it worked for me as you can see my test results for emissions were high. you should go back using the petrol you always use after the test. the pura and the stp are only to get you through the test. best of luck.
