Not Buying Another, Any Thoughts?

Its odd but Toyota and BMW are the top two brands in most surveys I read but I have only ever needed to join a forum for two of my cars, Toyota and BMW. I have owned lots of different cars (incl. 5 toyotas, 2 chryslers, 2 seats, 1 alfa romeo, 1 bmw, 1 renault) over the past ten years and only the toyotas and bmw really caused consternation. I really feel that the older Toyotas were alot better built. I owned a great little RAV4 (1995) which never gave any trouble and it was based on this experience that I purchased my latest 2001 avensis. The most reliable/fun car was an american car (chrysler). There are two Seat Toledos in our driveway and both are streets ahead of the Avensis in every respect, from fit and finish to road holding. Suffice to say I will not be buying either a BMW or a Toyota again. Its onto a Saab next or maybe a wallet busting Jaguar for a real change! Though with the 1500euro annual road tax charged in Ireland (yes that is 1500, not a typo) on engines above 3litre maybe the Saab would make more sense.

I would agree to a point that the Japanese built Toyota's are superior to those made elsewhere. Having had experience of Carina II's and Camry's I can say the quality was far ahead of that of the Carina E and Avensis I had previous. Perceived quality may have improved but I don't think actual quality has.
