Ball Joints!

Hi all,

My liteace had its mot today and its failed on the upper and lower ball joints!! mechanic said that there was some play??

Any how really annoyed it took 8 hrs to get my mot and a service when the mechanic said it would only take 2. Not good when you have kids to pick up from school!...

What i need to know and hope someone will help me with is how ofen do the ball joints normally go and How much should they charge to replace them? I think he may be taking the mick!!

I have a full service history with the car and all the ball joints were replaced under 3 years ago so is this normal for them to need to be done now??

Any replys would be greatfully recieved i have to face the bloke agian tomorrow and want to be prepared! He spoke down to me today and as i know i no mechanic how will i learn about my car if i dont question things!
