Cdx Avensis Cd And Steering Noise

Hello All...my first post.

I have owned Toyotas-Carina E and then Avensis MK1 for about ten years and have always found them very reliable if looked after.

I have just bought an Avensis 2.0 2001 CDX VVTi after an incident in the Avensis. After one week of use of the CDX, I have a niggle and a worry which you may be able to help with.

Niggle: the CD player in the boot, am I loading the discs wrongly? I can load discs into the cartridge in the morning and they won't play, the display shows

Er 1 as I select each disc and the player makes little searching noises but no music, but when I drive home in the evening, they will all play. This has happened three times.

Worry: on full lock, left and right, the front wheels make an alarming screech. I am familiar with the usual Toyota steering grunts and moans but I have not heard this before on the other cars I owned. It has only happened twice, both turning right and left on full lock. Could it be the wheels rims rubbing against something or is it more drastic.

The car is beautiful, fully trimmed and fast and thirsty, like my ideal .....?

could also be condensation on the CDs if taking them from a warm house to a cold car stereo.

the screeching tyre sound is the power steering pump belt. either the auto adjusters aren't doing their job or the belt needs changing.
