This weeks Auto Express has a couple of pictures and a small story about next years new Avensis. Have a look in a copy at your newsagent or keep an eye on the website as it runs the magazine news a few days behind.

Even though I don't have an Avensis anymore I still think of you guys ;)

Funny how tastes must change. Ever since 2003 when I got my first Avensis the car has been admired by people in car parks and on the drive. My latest is Venetian Silver and only yesterday I was asked about it and told how stylish it looks by a complete stranger.

One of the reviews in 2003 that convinced me to get the car mentioned its 'road presence'. Now I read it doesn't have it anymore.

They want to make the car bigger. No doubt it will be light but why make it bigger? It's a pretty roomy car already and the dimensions are just about right. OK the cabin could do with a revamp after 4 years but otherwise the ride is fine and the handling pretty fair and new diesels give excellent performance.

I'd have thought this model had at least a couple of years left in it after the latest facelift.

  • 1 month later...

There is no sedan version of Auris, because Auris is only made as a hatchback model.

The new E13 Corolla has been on the market for many months now, all over europe.

Confirmed reports from my friends in Toyota tell me that the images that were taken by Autoexpress are for the corolla estate version and not for the 2008 avensis. The toyota corolla is sold in europe along with the Auris and because of the mega success of the corolla sedan they are planning to launch a estate version of the corolla. here are more details..

If the new Avensis is, in fact, the US market Camry I will sign up for one! I owned 4 Camrys while living in the US and if they tweaked it a little for our roads it would be a winner. However, the Camry is a large car and I suspect too thirsty in petrol guise to be marketable here.

I have to agree with the above poster on the styling of the current Avensis. It is far from "bland" and the front is, if anything, reminscent of the nicely stylised Audi front. One motor journalist takes a view and evidently all follow. Perhaps Jeremy Clarkson set the pace as he is known to dislike anything not made in Munich or Modena. If you want some hideous styling look no further than BMW's recent offerings--now there is UGLY!

My only beef about the current Avensis (mine is a '53 plate T3s Auto HB) is the quality control--road noise, rattling and buzzing door panels, ill fitting interior bits, leaky headlights and non-operating petrol cap door. Nothing really major. I also own a P reg. Audi A4 1.8SE and conclude Toyota has a long way to go before they catch the Germans on fit and finish and rattle control. I think the Avensis front looks as good as the recent Audi offerings with the large rounded nose which gives great road "presense."
